Default blown po171 code

well i just got my car back today from getting a new clutch and was just driving it around to break it in. I noticed that my cruise control light was blinking and my check engine light suddenly came on. I found the code and looked around differnt forums and found that leaking hoses or the intake could cause the problem. I looked under the hood and found that the cone on my iK&N cold air intake was not tight at all...so i tightend the clamp down and drove around for about 15 minutes and the code has yet to go away...should I clear the code with my AP or will it just go away over time?

thanks

po171 is bank 1 system lean, if your clamp was loose could have been having a vacuum leak after maf sensor and thinking it was running lean. clear the code and let idle for 10minutes. if light does not come back on then it is good to go.

My original protuner gave my car back and it threw that code. By the time I drove back(30mins) the turbo blew. Preturbo/intake leak somewhere. Car was LEAN. do you have a wideband gauge?

Usually an intake leak of some sort will throw that code(could be intake or intake manifiold or pinched vacuum line). Find the problem and fix it ASAP. Loosen all hose clamps and reposition properly on intake and also look at all vacuum lines. Lean is bad.

A $250 wide band gauge is one of the most important gauges you can have.

It depends on the scenario. If lean at idle, prolonged/repeated idle will throw the code. If lean at throttle input, it depends on the input and how/when the ECU checks those paramaters. Mine was lean at idle and fine at WOT. It was preturbo. Made turbo overboost to achieve preset boost. So my gauge would show 20psi but in actuality, my turbo was boosting 24psi. See what I mean? TOO many variables to guess. But a LEAN CODE MEANS BAD THINGS.

yea makes sense..so maybe i should let it idle for about 10 minutes to see if it throws it again...i would think that something this serious would make the computer keep sending these codes even after just being erased...i just hope nothing bad happens

Let it idle and listen under hood for sounds of a vacuum leak. Hose clamps are very easy to overtighten and this causes leaks too.

i really appreciate you helping me out with this...I mean i would pay an arm and a leg for the dealership to look under the hood and say o yea it was a loose clamp...tomorrow i will let it run for a little while and if nothing happens then idk i will just have to go get a wide band gauge
