Default First performance mod on an 08 STi

i'm kinda curious..

What's the first performance mod you'd recommend to a new owner of an 08 STi [if the year would make any difference] ?

Opinions are gonna vary ALOT. But, for what it's worth, I recommend the cobb accessport. You can flash a stage 1 map off the bat. Then, be able to add cat back exhaust or turbo back exhaust(stage2) in the future when you get bored with stage 1 power. Also, A K&N drop in panel filter helps these motors alot(3-5 whp) too for a really cheap mod alond with silencer delete. Enjoy the new car.
The K&N drop in air filter and silencer delete is probably the most rewarding for the money.

Acessport, Catback exhaust for start. Then drop in a nice downpipe and go stage 2 and enjoy. Stage 2 is a lot of fun. Then get a nice intake such as APS. Call it a day for a bit.

First, I'd say drive the car for a while, get used to the power, how the car handles, etc.

Then, like everyone else is saying, get an ACCESSport. Flash stage 1, and you'll notice the increase in hp/tq. Then, grab a downpipe, and flash stage 2. You don't really have to worry too much about the cat back as it does very little, only sound.

2nd. iwsti needs moar emphasis on driving skill then aftermarket stuff.

After that, I would go for suspension mods / track tires.

From the reports of the car's running too lean and way too long of a closed loop to open loop delay for 2008 model year's I'd reccomend a good tune as your first mod.

Definitely the Cobb AP to get to Stage 1. Good gains for the price, future expandibility, and it's safer than the stock tune. That said, the '08 has a problem running lean, so I wouldn't recommend getting a drop in filter. Also, skip the catback exhaust. The '08 stock exhaust is freer flowing than previous years, and you can get to Stage 2 with just a new downpipe. You'd see a lot more gains from a down pipe than you would for a catback exhaust for less money.

Stage 1 tune / OTS map (Cobb or otherwise). First mod. Do it for the longevity of your motor.

I gained 25 whp when I added my cbe to my dp with protune. Exhaust is very important on a turbo car, not just sound.
