i agree. the oil probably dampens most of the vibration but it wouldn't hurt to tig both connections.

I understand your concern, but bigger is not always better, like I said in post #6. IMHO it's a system that will have vibration no matter what you do. The known failure point has been eliminated. The next weakest area is a guess on anyone's part, and likely significantly stronger than the original failure point. If anyone can prove otherwise I'm all ears. I apprecaite the feedback and support!

Thanks
Chris

Not true. He tig welded the new tube to the flange. However, the tube is still brazed at the pickup. He left this stock.

Finally getting around to putting on my improved pickup this weekend. Pulled the old one out and inspected it thoroughly with a 17X eyeloop (no microscope handy) and it apears there is an area with some light surface cracks. Some look to be only into the braze flux, but a couple are definitly deeper. If anyone wants full resolution pics PM me your e-mail address. Once I get my super pickup installed I am going to polish the factory one down to see if the cracks penetrate the tube. If all goes well I will get vendor status so I can help everyone out with this horrible flaw.

Chris

All of them. Some years are worse than others, but there have been failures on WRX, STi and Legacy models.

Installed my pickup. It is rock solid and fits well. Before I put the pan on I used some clay to measure the distance to the botom of the pan to the pickup. It was VERY close, so I deshouded the can to increase the height height and open it up some. I know, I've always said there's no reason to deshroud because it's not the smallest hole in the system and the closer to the bottom the less likely to starv the pickup. Well after measuring the tiny clearance and observing the inside of the pan, the oil really has nowhere else to go except into the pickup (no matter how hard to you corner!). Baffles in the Moroso unit makes sense though because it's bottom is wide and flat. Feels good knowing I never have to worry about pickup failure.

Perfect pressure!
