Default 07 sti issues?

Ok i know there are a couple threads regarding issues with 07s... and all I hear left and right is blah blah blah your engine is going to go KABOOM blah blah...its running lean blah blah, get a stage 2 (which I will...soon) blah blah. But seriously, is it something that happens to a lot of people or only to an unlucky few? and what should i be looking out for to prevent this from happening? I bought a used 07 with 19k on it, software updated, should i be worried?

get a compression test and leak down test. if it passes then have no worries and go stage 2 for more power and enjoy

i read on here somewhere that alot of the issues were coming up on the early production models without the soa reflash..i believe the later sti's produced came with the reflash theres a thread on which vin# came with the reflash.

ok, spoke with my buddy who owns a tuning shop, usually charges 350 for compression test alone, says might be able to do 300 for both comp. and leak down. Think i should go for it? as i said before its a stock 07 with 20k on it with the reflash done at the dealer... should i really go for this? or just not run it hard and save up for a stage 2?

i say buy a Cobb AP and stay stage 1 for a while until you get tired of the stock power. Then down the road buy a DP and reflash to stage 2. No worries.

if it's running fine, sounds good and isn't putting anything out of the tailpipe don't bother with the leakdown or the compression. if youre going to do it, do it before you buy it. move to stage 2 and have fun.

well thats the thing, this engine so foreign to me that any sound it emits...is JUST that, foreign... Car runs fine, from what I can tell. So my other option is just a Cobb AP for now, and just run the map that they have that is suppouse to take care of this problem? I mean i was planning on getting the AP in the future ANYWAY...

Its just scary with all of these people saying your going to go kaboom, especially scary when i ran the hell out of the car this week end.

that's WAY too expensive. compression + leakdown tests shouldn't be more than $150 for both

$350.00 for a compression test is SUPER EXPENSIVE, do not pay more than $120.00 for the test!!!!!

hmm actually I think I can pull this test off my self with some help, is the normal psi range listed in the manual? and any idea what fuse disables fuel and spark?

dont know where you guys are getting these prices from, but subaru quoted me 300 for EACH test lol, how ever i talked to a tech that has 4 stis and he said we will be more than glad to look and listen to make sure everything is ok...

compression numbers are listed in the serviced manual, 140 min. i have heard many times that a low variance is more important than higher #s. the fuse is located behind drivers coin tray, it has a label like "abs/ign".

by service manual you mean shop manual? grrr dont have it =P havent noticed anyone posting it either... any ideas on that?

another thing i am confused about, pardon my ignorance and posting this here, but with the AP from COBB, which ever stage, its plug and play for the most part...right (besides downloading the maps)? No tuning required as far as i see, am i correct on this?

another update, previous owner got the new software on it at 800miles from subaru... not sure if it helps.

All of the maps will be already stored on the AP. The instructions tell you exactly where to hook it up, and walks you through the very simple steps. You simply select the stage that best suits your cars setup. If your car is stock, select the stage 1 93octane map. Assuming you want to run the 93oct map. Later on after you get a DP, hook it back up and download the stage 2. Then i would look into getting your car tuned by a professional. As for me, i am stage 2 and untuned. Car runs like a champ. Goodluck.
