Guys, WRXs (including STis) have a pretty efficient intake system already from Subaru. There is very little room for improvement and what's really left is more along the lines of trying to decrease turbulance. Asside from a new turbo intake hose (hose that sits between the turbo and your intake box) and some IC hoses there really isn't much to improve uppon. A BOV on a MAF sensored car is pretty much useless, and it won't do crap for improving your power... you just spent money on something that makes sound. Also, Typhoon intakes have been known to cause problems with WRXs... read up on Cobb's site and you'll notice that the Typhoon's always cause majob lean problems... more so then any other intake on the market for our cars. Unfortunaltly there is a lot of things that are done better on the STi then are done on the WRX. The exhaust is also a lot better so a catback won't have such a big affect on the STi as it would on a WRX, a turboback messes with your o2's and you have to run hacks. If you want some power out of your STi I'd suggest you put your intake back to stock, put the stock diverter valve (blowoff) back on and after you sell both your Typhoon and BOV to someone go out and buy yourself a nice set of headers for it. Until some nice engine management comes out there isn't anything else to improve uppon. A downpipe would also work wonders, but it depends on your need to stay emissions legal.

Dump that stupid blow off valve and your times will improve. I suggest eating large quantities of beans if you want that sound.

I know what your talking about, I also went to the track 1.8 60 foot time 13.6 at 98 and a 1.9 60 foot time with a 13.7 at 98. I had sold my Bullitt mustang for an sti and i love the sti. I ran a 13.9 at 101 in my bullitt(stock) and i dont understand how an all wheel drive with about 25 more horse same weight and i cant even break 100 miles per hour? OH and im stock. Maybe we are shifting too hard? Maybe the floor mat was under the pedal?(found it under the pedal 2 days after the track dont know if i was running with it under the pedal. lol) but on the go it does kinda feel the same as my bullitt.

Your car should NOT feel the same as a Bullitt....No WAY!!! That was one of the first races I ever had and while I was still stock. It started in 1st gear and ended in 3rd....I absolutely DESTROYED him...by several cars in only 3 gears......

Shawn,
Some advice from an old guy. My STI's stock for now but I've been playing with turbo cars since the 80s (1977 Saab 99 Turbo started it all).

First - I second the points about going back to stock recirc valve and intake. If for no other reason than to get a valid stock baseline.

Second - tweaking that stuff without any kind of reprograming is pointless. Just don't do it. Sell the BOV and use it for money towards a Cobb Accessport if you don't want to tweak or a Utec or equivalent if you do want to play.

Third - Trap speed is more an indication of hp, or more specifically power/weight than your ET is. Your times are terrible. That suggests you need to work on your technique. Thats fine, it'll come. The STI is harder to launch well than most cars. You don't get wheelspin to smooth things out. Whats telling though is your 96 mph Trap speed. Suggests you're down on power.

Fourth - Spend some time reading and talking to people before you spend your $$. The things you bought were pretty useless as a first step. A downpipe w/out cats and a day of track time would've helped way more than what you did and would have cost about the same.

I had 20k into my mustang (labor runs high) - but the STi is better. Period. Done. That's all Folks.

My best time at the track was 13.7 and my second run was 13.8, but that one could have been better. I let off the throttle on the second run because I thought I red lighted. I shifted just before red line everytime. I'm sure this car has more in it than 13.7, but the track where I live is otorious for being slow. It could be the same case for you. Maybe your bros WRX is a feak from the factory, and you could have ended up with the other end of the scale. Hard to say. Shrug.

works. but incredibly ghetto.

FORGED ALUMINIUM(foil) RIMS.
Folgers exhaust
typeR badges (except real integra type Rs.)

I love this description from that site:

Quote:
You will not be able to tell the difference on the sound generated between the NA Blow Off Valve & the turbo blow off valve. The sound generated is conspicuous, and will not make one have a second look to ensure if it is genuine.
I think they mean inconspicuous...

Take it back to the dealer and tell them the damn thing can't break the 100 mph trap at the track, and demand it be fixed!!!

Well I wnet back to stock and returned to the track. The temp was 93F out and pretty humid. But to my surprise the times stayed the same. My 60' times were awsome. the were all in the 1.7's. With the best being a 1.702. but my traps where still in the mid 90's. The best trap was a 97mph. I tried several runs with the stock airbox and several with the K&N. My best with the stock airbox was a 13.7 at 96mph and the best with the K&N was a 13.6 at 97.8mph. So I guess the intake does work. I am still really shocked at such low mph. I tried shifting at all different rpm's and nothing seemed to help. I am hoping that it was the heat. My friends Lighting that usually runs 12.7's all day could only muster a 13.0. Did anyone else's STI seem to run alot slower in the heat. I would like to see that people who were running 13.7's at 97mph in the heat were running 13 flats at like 102mph. I still think my car feels down on power. But I really appricate all the help guys.
