Bought 2007 STi used, without knowing the wrong map was flashed to it! help!!

Hello, I recently purchased a 2007 STi from a BMW dealership, so one day I noticed it was idling somewhat weird and there was a hesitation. So I looked in the glovebox and saw that there had once been a Cobb AP installed to the car. So I contacted the previous owner (he left service records with his number in the glovebox) and to my shock the car had been flashed to stage 2 and there is no TBE intsalled. All that is installed on the car: SPT Cat Back, and a Downpipe, and Cobb Springs. He also said that before he traded the car in, that he was unable to "unmarry" the AP from the car because the AP died on him. So I was wondering, is my car in danger because it was never unmarried and was flashed to the wrong map?? Please Help me! What Should I DO?!?!

Sounds like a stage 2 setup to me.

You said it has a downpipe so the Stage 2 map is necessary, all you really need is a downpipe to flash Stage 2. If the Accessport is damaged, you will have to mail it with your ECU to Cobb and they can take it from there quite quickly.

Well, I bought it used and the AP was gone, so, if I buy a new one and hook it up, will it work?

No, you have to send your ECU to Cobb in Utah for them to unlock it from the old Accessport that was installed on it before.

Well, is it bad to run the car reflashed to Stage 2 without the AP?

No, The accessport is only really needed to flash the map you want then you can leave it in your house. You just won't be able to change anything on the ECU if you needed to without getting another Accessport and getting your ECU unlocked. (like getting a custom tune or returning it to stock).

^ Yup. You're fine, just dont have the advantage of swaping maps and reading cel's. When you get a chance(vaction or something) mail the ecu into cobb and they will un-marry it.
