IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | How much oil does your turbo burn? And which oil have you noticed burn the least? I recently installed a oil catch can because oil was getting into my intake manifold and FMIC. So I cleaned it all out and reflashed the ECU.. The car was running great but its burning a lot of oil. So I was just wondering what you guys are experiencing? APS Sr56 Turbo / Forged Actuator- Cobb TBE- Perrin FMIC- 740CC Injector- Walbro 255 FP- Invidia One Piece Headers- Greddy Oil Catch can- TurboSmart Stealth BOV This ad is not endorsed by this member. IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (7) | I use Motul... Currently using a PE 1820F tuned at 21 lbs...As of now I have no oil burn... How many miles do you have on your rig, and whats ALOT of oil? During my break in period, I used about a 1/4 quart between 3000 mile oil changes. That was with Castroil dino.... |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | The reason why I asked is because last weekend I cleaned out my Oil Catch can and checked the oil level. I was good... I drove about 300+ miles to the beach and drove it for another 5 days and all my oil was gone. I have no leaks, unless they're internal? So in 7 days all my oil had burned up? I don't know if its the oil I used "Mobil 1" or my engine. Side note my oil catch can is pretty much still empty. ![]() Quote:

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | Our 06 STI is currently at 4k miles (50k on the clock) on synthetic Castrol 10w30. It is at the fill line, have not had to add a drop. It has no catch cans, no air/oil seperator. My 07 STI before it developed a hairline crack in a ringland behaved the same. Once the crack developed, it started eating about a quart between changes (3k intervals), then got steadily worse until a ringland broke. Food for thought. FWIW, I used to run Mobil one in my 06 and 02 WRX and they ate about 1/2 to 1 quart between intervals. It was just a thinner oil. Last edited by gabedude; 07-07-2008 at 01:05 PM. |

Do you think running 10w is better than running the recommended 5w? Why? By the way I appreciate your input. Oh yeah one more question. What did you do about that crack? Did the warranty cover it or did that come out of your pocket? | |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | Well, if you follow all of the threads when I bought this rolling turd, the first engine went before 3k miles due to a faulty injector (covered under warranty). The second engine went for 11k miles, but then I had mods (after running the stock map for about 4k miles, datalogging it). It is then that I decided to reset the ecu and go hammer on the car and it ran out of fuel, detonated pretty bad and started burning oil. It was downhill from there, but lasted a good 11k before it went. Once at Stage 2 the power level could just not be kept up with the cracks in the pistons. Only one (#3) was very bad and it broke off. It came out of pocket. The car is almost back together again (installed a comp ring upside down in one piston). |
