Default Going a little bit more then stage II looking for some info

Looking to get my first pro tune besides the AP stage II

Putting in PE850cc Injectors, waste gate solenoid new version of prodrive one.

Now my question is should I purchase a new TMIC and move up from the stock one or just run the stock TMIC.

Fear is that Im a bit afraid that the stock turbo may surge with a bigger then stock TMIC?? any thoughts on this??

Current mods are
Injen Intake
Helix DP no cat
Apexi GT spec exhaust
Gimmick Inlet tube

Future mods are, SZ55, cams, valves, pistons, meth, etc.

So im looking to do a stage II ++ for the rest of the summer hopping to do the big stuff soon.

PS i did search for similar but could not find.

I think switching the TMIC to a bigger one helps a little bit, but I don't know if if the gains are worth spending the money.

Based on your future mod path save your money for the front mount.

I would go front mount but...I want it to be reliable, overbuilding the motor, no on the front mount so I dont have to deal with the trouble.

Why do you think that the car will be less reliable with a FMIC. You will get a safer more consistent tune with the FMIC.

srsly.

running and SZ55 with a tmic is stupid IMO. You'll probably get more consistent / reliable power with a fmic. Save your money.

You must already plan on building the motor if you plan on doing cams, or you SHOULD plan on building the motor i should say because you have to pull the motor to do cams anyway. Might as well put some pistons atleast while you're in there.

Yes I will be pulling the motor out i will be doing pistons etc..I have two subaru techs that I work with that have built modded motors and i trust there judgment. We have discussed cosworth/apr/moley pistons, cosworth head gaskets, new head bolts, connecting rods, all the usuals for internals. We have also discussed TMIC and FMIC. IMO, I have two guys that I have on my local fourm, both sti, both gt35r's one with FMIC and one with TMIC. The one with the TMIC uses his as a daily driver other with a FMIC is a sat, sun and events only car, granted he has some aggressive tuning I will give you that but the one with the top mount is running meth and he has no issues, he does have some great number granted his tq is higher then his hp but none the less his sti is a monster. My goal is hopefully 400whp on pump gas and meth next summer if the winter goes right and I can get everything together.

Stupid?? guess I will make my own mistakes..just trying to do something a little different from everyone else.

But the winter is long and I may change my mind

Not saying your stupid, but the decision to run the TMIC would be with that size turbo. Maybe if you are running meth. I'd stay away from aftermarket headgaskets from what i've read, although i haven't read anything specific about the cosworths. You can have your car tuned as you want, telling me that one guy you know runs a tmic and the other runs a fmic really means nothing. That is there choice to drive it when they want, having a fmic does not make it a weekend warrior alone. It's all in the tune as i am sure you know.

Either way i'm sure youll hit your goal of 400whp. I am just a large advocate of fmic's, as i dont see any reason not to run them with larger turbos. They are more efficient and less prone to heatsoak.

GL on your build, im sure itll be a beast.

Yea I don't know on the head gaskets either, I may just go with the stock ones again, I do work at a dealership so I get then at my cost

as for the TMIC just wanting to go a bit more stealthier but I know a rattle can of flat black paint will go a long way with a FMIC but we will see

True. And you can always buy intercoolers that are already pre painted black so you dont have to worry about it looking cheap.

Have you considered CP pistons?

You can get away with a larger TMIC with a turbo the size of a SZ55. P&L has run a 35R with a TMIC. They only recommend the Spearco or TurboXS for larger TMICs. Good luck with the setup.

Haven't looked at the cp's yet, as far as a FMIC in black i may have a line on a APS one, same with the TMIC

I would suggest considering CP pistons as well, although aim sure cossies will be great too.
