Default Thinking of switching to Amsoil. Which weight to use?

Car is stage 2 with 40k miles. I have changed the oil once since I have owned the car, with the recommended Valvoline 5w30 and a Subaru oil filter.

After trolling almost every oil thread I could find, I am looking to switch to Amsoil.

I drive the car very hard, and it will see a road course or 2 this summer. I live in Chicago, which gets very hot and very humid in the summer.

Should I go with Amsoil's 5w30, or 5w40 weight oil and why?

Thanks!

they make a 0W40 labeled as a powersports oil, but its a very heavy duty oil that works great in our cars.

i stick with 5w30, it's what was in the car when I bought it and it's what the owners manual and oil filler cap says to use.

I'm running Amsoil Synthetic 5W-40 European Engine Oil and will have an oil analysis on this oil within the next few months.

5w-30 ASL as well as an AEO-13 filter. The AEO-12 is the "correct" filter for our cars based on the book, but the AEO-13 filter has the same thread pitch as well as the same diameter, it is about 1.5" longer though.

I've previously used the Series 2000 0W-30 Racing Oil and been very pleased with it. However, yesterday I tried to order two more cases on the Amsoil web site and it's no longer being offered.

They're now offering their Signature Series 0W-30 oil and touting it's extended drain intervals which are of no interest to me.

Here's the info I got from their Technical Service Representative.

The Signature Series is not specifically a racing oil. Right now the only race specific oils we offer are the Series 2000 Synthetic 20W-50 Racing Oil (Product Code: TRO) and the Super Heavy Weight SAE 60 Racing Oil (Product Code AHR). We are introducing some new racing oils in the near future but I don’t have the specs on them yet.

So now I need to do some research and figure out if I can use the 20W-50 Racing Oil instead of the traditional 0W-30 Racing Oil.

I would be really interested in reading about your UOA when it is complete. How do you drive you car though? Does it see any track events?

I have used a few oils, but all 5w-30. I just switched to Amsoil 5w-30. I have a track day in July and will have it changed thereafter and analyzed by Blackstone (yes, I'm a geek, I have all my oil changes analyzed by Blackstone). I have the last change's sample in the car right now... I'll be posting results in my journal.

Boony, I am looking forward to you report. I am currently thinking of switching to AMSOIL as well but the dealer guy keeps telling me to go to the 10W-50 because of the engine being turbocharged.

Anyhow, I'll see you next week at Waterford I guess. Later man.

I always though that 0W30 would be for cold weather. I use Motul300V 10W60 it's synthetic Esther based endurance race oil.

Never had a problem with it for a long time in my Euro spec M3, my GT and an Evo VIII
