Default Help! STi running HOT!

My 05 STi has been running much hotter than normal. There has been 2 changes since the car has been running hot. I had a synthetic oil change and cleaned and re-oiled my K&N Typhoon short ram intake in the same day. The car seems to run close to 25-45% hotter especially while stopped at idle and after highway driving etc. The temp gauge usually rests just over the 1/4 mark and now it can get all the way up to the 3/4 mark.

Could either of these things cause this? What would? Normal? Please help!

Thanks

Well if the temp comes up when you are sitting idling it sounds like your fan is not coming on. Check that first

Do I just stop and listen to see if the fan kicks on? If it does not all of the sudden, what can I do?

Thanks

My STi was overheating to about 3/4 temp mark however this was on track under WOT. You need to take progressive steps. Here is what I did:

1) Check if the coolant levels are on track.
2) Check to see if the fan is working. If the car is running hot, the fan will be there for sure.
2) Bleed the system or they call it burping the system (do a search on burping or burp).

The problem was still there (in my case).

3) Changed the thermostat and caps.

In your case, the above mentioned steps should fix it. It has nothing to do with the oil change or intake ram.

In my case, the problem (WOT at track after 15 or so mins) was still there.

4) Went with 1/2 liter coolant, the rest filled with distilled water.

Improved but slightly.

5) Koyo radiator

Improved a lot but the temp would now rest at 1/2 mark.

6) No coolant just 2 bottles of Redline Water Wetter and distilled water.

Problem solved.

Thanks, I will give all of this a try.

I recently had my 05 overheat and when I went to check the coolant it was waaaaaay low. I filled up with enough water to get me home and then filled her up with coolant when I got home.

definately check your coolant level and if its low you more than likely have a leak somewhere. take it and get a cooling system pressure test at your local mechanic.good luck
