So 3 weeks ago I was on the highway and decided to do a 6th gear pull. During the pull, the car shut off on me. I managed to get the car off the highway. I got the car towed to my buddy's house and he posted on nasioc for me... but nothing has come up to help me out yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated...I miss driving my car Here is what he posted on nasioc:

The situation:
He was driving and doing a 6th gear pull which he rarely does. He's been driving on his setup for quite some time with no issues. After doing the 6th gear pull he slowed down and went back to cruising. A few moments later the car shut off and wouldn't start up again. He had the car towed to my house for troubleshooting.

Mods:
Perrin Gt30R turbo kit with front mount. Walbro 255lph fuel pump. Access Port tuned...

Attempted troubleshooting:
1. Originally I thought maybe at 6th gear the fuel pump received too much load and kicked the bucket. We threw in a new fuel pump and the car still won't start.
2. We got hold of a fuel pump control module from another STI and swapped it. The car still didn't start.
3. We pulled the fuel feed before the pulsation dampener and verified that fuel was indeed coming out.
4. We opened up the passenger foot panel and found the fuel pump relay and it seems like it is working. We can hear the fuel pump prime. We can hear the fuel pump relay "click" the circuit closed and after the key is removed we can hear it "click" the circuit open after a few seconds.
5. We have checked all the fuses in the engine bay and the drivers side knee panel. I've also moved a few relays around to make sure they are working. Everything seems fine.
6. We tried jumping the car as a possible battery issue.
7. We replaced the battery with an optima red top just because
8. We replaced the plugs which had been in there for way too long with some new Denso Iridiums
9. I confirmed that there was spark from the coil pack by pointing it to a ground and watching it fire.
10. If I spray toluene directly through the throttle body and crank the car it will actually start and run until the toluene is spent. which makes me think it is a fuel issue. However we have already gone though and make sure there was fuel going to the fuel system.
11. We have tried starting the car with the MAF sensor unplugged (I didn't think this would work as the car should be in open loop during cold startup and my assumption is that it doesn't use the MAF sensor)
12. The plugs that were removed came out somewhat black and fouled. So I don't believe it was a lean condition that caused this.
13. We did at one point get a CEL. It was P1515. Idle Air Control Solenoid Signal 3 Circuit High Input I believe. Perhaps we got it because we had been pulling the charge pipe off the throttle body?

So any advice?
Hopefully I've covered all our troubleshooting so far.

My thoughts about future troubleshooting:
*Unplug the 02 sensors and see if the car starts
*Check the idle air control system (I don't know what type the STI uses yet so that will be fun) Is it built into the throttle body? Is it a separate valve that has a hose before and after the throttle body?
*Get a hooker to come and sit on the throttle body while we crank it

fpr may have locked up open, not enough fp. just thowing something out...

pull the return line off...see if u get fuel there....your buddy is right it sounds like a fuel issue to me....or a MAJOR vacuum leak, something so big that the starting fluid is simply forcing it to run but it wont run under its own power....another thing would be to pull one plug and crank it....put your hand down there and see if you get fuel vapor on your hand...could be jammed up injectors?

Thanks for the help guys! We have tried to see if there was fuel coming from the return and feed lines (didn't know which was which at first) and there is definitely fuel coming out of the feed line. Nothing from the return.

I just bought a cheapo fuel pressure gauge to see if there is any pressure in the lines. We will see how that goes...

f the pump is pushign fuel, and it's getting to the engine, the only thing left is injectors. For some reason the injectors aren't firing fuel into the engine.

Now a 6th gear pull is hard on the engine, but I can't seem to think of a connection between that and the problems you're having. If the engine runs fine with starter fluid and there's no odd noises.....

Looks like it's time to clean out your entire fuel system.

1. Check your fuel rails for debris, then clean them out
2. Check your injectors for clogs and debris, then clean them too

It sounds like the issue resides directly after your fuel line. If you pull your fuel line and turn the key does fuel come out? Are you smelling fuel under the hood while everything is connected?

I have pulled the lines and checked to see if fuel comes out. I actually took a video of the fuel coming out while priming and the fuel while the car was trying to start...

I will post videos up later today.

I'm just concerned that the pressure at which it comes out at is not enough...

Try one of your spare keys if you have it. Some reason a few weeks ago my buddie had his car just quit on him. He called me up and I told him get his spare key a give it a shot. It worked..
