What can be wrong with my car?? The engine shakes abnormally...

i just recently bought a second sti used from a person. this one is a 2004 with only 45000 miles on it and it runs perfectly with no major concerns other than the cars engine shakes A LOT... mostly on start up and when idleing at signal lights.

speaking of that.. it idles really low i think at like 400 rpms.

CAN THERE BE SOMETHING CLOGGED OR NEEDS TO BE CLEANED??
DO I NEED TO MAYBE CHANGE THE SPARK PLUGS?

Aftermarket engine mounts maybe?

I was thinking the same thing... i wanted to check the mounts to see if they were even tight. but i need to find some pix of where their at cause i couldnt find em. but i think ill spend more time today trying to find out where their at and if their tight.

but i also just dont get why im idleing so low under 500 rpms... my other car and other peoples cars are like at 750ish...

if the car is cammed will it lower the rpms?? cause i bought this car from another state and i have no idea what mods they did to it yet... but i finding little by little a lot of stuff has been changed. they used it for an off road subbie....

It's the engine mounts then.

Get rid of the BOV and get a tune. Why did you buy the car without knowing what's in it?

well he just told me the basics of what he had done to it himself (he owned it for approx a few months) and another company had owned it before that. but he just did basic stuff like suspension, full exhaust, bov.

as of engine, he hadnt done anything to it. and it looks a runs perfectly fine... just that it shakes a lot.. so im gonna have to get in their and tighten it asap, cause that sucker shakes my tranny too.

and the reason i bought it without knowing whats all in it was because it was a good deal.... i got it for 16k.... so i figured id get it and if anything needs fixing i had some extra cash to fix it.

How do you know that? Like you would know that based on the small amount of info he has given us!

I'm sure when he says they used it as an "off-road subbie" they just meant that they were driving to their grandmas home and she lives in the forest so they occasionally took quaint drives on a nice dirt road to look at the deer and bunnies on the way to get some cookies from grandmas.

I really doubt someone would use a modified STI in any sort of rally environment, but maybe you are right...There really isn't any way to make a proper conclusion based on the limited info we have been provided.

Just do the standard battery of tests and replace all the basics. Itll probably be ok.

ok so i took it in the get new plugs and get a tune and the guy calls me saying its misfiring...

he needs to hold the car for a couple days to figure it out and thats as much as i know as of now. hopefully its just a clogged injector or something....

I nailed a deer very lightly last week in my 04 wrx

, now the engine is doing the same thing you described... The mechanic said pistons 1 and 4 were misfiring, but did not know what was causing it??? (he did put in a new radiator tho) I'd be interested to know the verdict on yours. Thz

Thats not good if it is missfiring and shaking violently (usually means a cracked ringland). Sorry about your bad luck. Welcome to the club.
