Default Intake silencer delete question?

ok well i just wanted to ask a quick question. Ive searched all around and couldnt find this answer but im sure that its harmless but im not 100% sure. Is the intake silencer delete a harmless mod? i know some say you loose power and some say different but i just want to know if it can hurt your engine in any way. i havent heard any complants yet but i just want to make sure before i do it.

thanks.

you probably could take the whole thing out but keeping the elbow there gives the air flow some direction towards the stock intake box...its harmless

You'll be sucking in more hot air from the engine bay if you don't seal off the box against the fender well. You'll see the gap I'm talking about. It becomes a hot air intake at that point.

GP Moto Air Intake Silencer Delete Elbow 02-07 WRX, STi
eBay Motors: GP Moto Air Intake Silencer Delete Elbow 02-07 WRX, STi (item 180208576153 end time Jun-17-08 19:26:36 PDT)
You do not lose power!!!! You just buy this item and you suck in cold air. They call it a snorkus delete. The reason why it is on. Is so that the intake is more quiet!!! When you take it off, you can hear the blow off valve! It is not too loud compared to the SPT intake. The one thing that I noticed is that the rev range is much smoother. Just look at the snorkus. The way it flows air is the best way to improve performance! Just buy the elbow and the perrin air filter and you will love it. I had the SPT intake and it kept pulling timing! Even after the AP was installed. But with the snorkus delete my car runs real nice.

i have the SPT intake, it works fine... by the way i don't think you hear the By-pass valve...you hear the stock wastegate...if you listen closely u notice that the sound is coming from the right side of the car, not the left...the wastegate is on the right and the BPV is on the left...

you're not harming anything, you're just opening up the flow of the intake, which is good, and then you can hear it.

alright one more question, once you saw the silencer off the elbow, you have to cover up the hole with a piece of plastic or something where the silencer used to connect to right?

One guy even fiberglassed the hole, then painted the whole piece black.
