I am actually almost done making this...

I used a metal mesh breather filter from Spectre 11.99

A cheap oil cap from Kragen Auto... 10.99

1'5" long of hoseing ... 1" think with a inlet of about 3/4" Got it for free cuz it was soo small hahah

I am going to bore a hole in the top of the oil cap. Then the breather slips into the top of the hose, clamps down with clamp. The bottom of the hose (inside the oil tube) will be fitted with a mesh washer for a sink, inverted. Last protection will be a mesh screen below that. Pics to follow soon...

I will report the results.. Could be fun...cost me less than $25...

this is a very interesting topic.

I just have my engine finished upgrading the pistons and rods and headworks.

new oil in, the mechanics cleaned my oil cap too. I have the Crawford air oil separator. I got curious because like all of us here, I want to gain extra performance.

But when I checked my oil cap after some driving in my car, the inside of the oil cap was very dry. Not even a film of oil on it. I believe it's due to the Crawford Air Oil separator doing it's job. And not only that, when I had my engine rebuilt after testing the Crawford 35R turbo kit, there is no oil in my IC piping and throttle body, not even oil film. However theres some oil dripping back to the engine where it belongs.

It depends on the application. I know it would get soaked on an EJ motor unless you run a really long, big ID hose and put a filter at the end of it. Again, I do not think it's the proper way at all. Hook it up to a vacuum source and a catch can. I've been to busy to do anything. Actually, I'm visiting my parents up in Northern California and don't even have my car with me.

This is easy enough to do. Hopefully someone gets it set-up before I get back home. If not, I should have it finished in about 2 weeks.

Here is the side view. On top is the Spectre MeshBreather...11.99

This has a 3/4 inch rubber tube extending down...

I fit this into a 1 inch hose...about 1.5 inches long.

then i set the clamp that came with the filter around the neck.

Then i bored a hole in a cheap oil cap...10.99

to bore the hole i used the drill bit that you use to cut door knobs with... not sure of the name...

use a 1 inch

Then needle nose pliers to pull the tube through...

bottom view:

inside the tube i squeezed a screened washer found in kitchen sinks...

On the first run, the car feel like it looses a little torque. .. I plan to run a 40 mile freeway stretch i will post tomorrow as i dont have a comp at home

The oil cap is too tall the first way. I took the clamp off the pushed the breather all the way in...fits perfect. The small bulge created from pushing the breather into the hose is enough to seal the air. I will post pics soon of the set up again and in the car... i am at work and cant do any uploading...

So on the free way

Sounds nice. The car ran smooth...no CEL's. I notice that below 2000 rpm if you are driving slow...the car feels like a heavy sedan. The go just isnt there..is almost like the pedal is soft.

Now when you open her up...well thats another story

She flys hahah The pull is slightly smoother...as well as the shifts

The i did the 5,500 rpm launch....

My best launch yet..

The car sounded rather happy to launch at that rpm this time...and no bucking / deep drop in rpms from dropping the clutch...

the best part... no oil traces AT ALL on my set up. I wiped the inside of the cap after each run..city driving, freeway (80 mph) and launching. Each test resulted in no oil on the underside of my cap.

So far i may just keep this set up...

the hood clears fine when you remove the clamp. With the clam..does not fit. You can slam it down, but the right side stick up a little...and i was not about to go 80 on the freeway with my hood slightly open...

Sounds cool but we need factual proof that it is doing something.

2 things to note
1)I don't care about what my car feels like below 2k b/c I'm never that low but is it really that noticable?
2)Wouldn't you be screwed if that little screen falls off or does it not fit in the tube?

Im gonna have to construct something like this. Ill be able to tell if it's helping at all.

BUE, is it your impression that if the entire cap is left off for a few 4th gear pulls (2-6k), oil wont shoot out or anything? If it's safe, Ill do some pulls back to back with pulls of the cap on. Ill get the proof.

But you're going to get a bunch of crap in your crankcase. Dust etc...

Where is your oil level at BUE?

When I take the cap off and put my ear up to the oil filler (at idle) little drops of oil fly out into my ear

Arrow Re: No Oil cap more horsepower

When I ran my car with no cap (accident) oil did come out. Small amount of drops on the hood under splash.

As for the breather set up, no oil has splashed on my cap. No oil splashes my stock cap too.

I thought about the screen falling off, then checked the cap...its not going anywhere I really dont think you need the second screen, as NO OIL splashes. Also the first screen, the breather is enough.

Remeber I got the Mesh one.

Part Numbers:

Oil Cap 11110
Breather 3995

The breather tube that sticks out of the breather has an opening of probably a pencil size, so the air flow is very small.

Oil is normal. I am getting it changed again today...i do it every 1000 miles

So my oil is constantly checked.

So after removing my blow off, i noticed a slight difference with the breather.

The car physicalt feels as if you traded 5 ponies for 5 torque points..thus relating to the slowness of >2,000 rpms?

Here is a pondering question:

Will having the oil vent to the hood cause poison gases to enter the car? Via a/c or heat or just air flow??

I like the breather in the cap idea.

But, I like the hose routed to a catch can better.

Waiting for Flatthump's setup.
