IWSTI Addict since: May 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | Thx for the very quick reply, I don't have the possibility to hear the different sounds live, because I quess in my country we have couple exhaust mods done to Subarus, and they are often Remus,Prodrive and probaply couble of HKS&Greddys. So I'll have to decide by the videos at youtube Does every aftermarket downpipe add the same amount of power, if tuned to it's limit, and could this be done to stock aswell? If someone could answe my 1-5 questions separelty, I would appreciate it very much. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

2) Not sure this makes any sense.. when you refer to an exhaust being "catted" or "catless", I'm pretty sure we are reffering to the down pipe... the muffler itself doesn't contain a cat. 3) Yes 4) Any 3" down pipe that you feel comfortable with 5) Pretty much any 3" downpipe should work | |

Power not so much, main question to ask here is if it will pass emissions or not, if a catted one doesnt pass emissions anyways just save money and go catless. 2.the only cat in the STi are in the downpipe. Thus why its called cat back (from the catalistic converter back). 3. Eh sorta? Exhaust note is mainly your axle back ( could get louder if you dont have a resonator in your midpipe) 4. You're good with any of the cobb/helix/invidia/titek/maddad/turboxs downpipes for that. If you go rotated turbo then you have to get something else. 5. The style/catted or not do not effect the mating process between exhaust and downpipe. |

IWSTI Addict since: May 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | Thank you very much for answers I understand a little more now. There is still couple details that im confused about. 1) Is it legal to remove the stock downpipe, even if you replace it with a new catted downpipe, because i've heard that at that point it doesen't matter if you get a catted or catless, because it won't pass the emissions. Is this correct? 2) As mentioned earlier to my question the main difference between downpipes is price&sound. But what of these downpipes is best for future power upgrades bellmouth/uncatted, divorced, and high-flow catted. 3) kiTsuNe mentioned that I need a different downpipe if I get a rotated turbo. What is a rotated turbo, because I am planning to change the turbo in the next couple years. ![]() 4) What is the difference between race cat, and normal cat ? 5) What is a catalytic converter I think these questions are enough, before I get banned for being a total newbie |

Especially if your goal is a higher target boost, and your turbo already has trouble hitting that mark. If your goal is 17 psi and you flow like crazy I can see it being very difficult, however. |

| Amateur STI Driver | This is one of those times I'm actually happy I live in MN. No emissions testing!!!! Of course the way things work up here that could change any moment they get wind there's money to be made on ticketing and fee's. So my question is this... I don't care about $$$ that much although if all the same obvious the less I spend the more I have to spend somewhere else. I'd just like a little more sound other than the stock pipe. I've got an all stock '05 STi which I'd like to not get too crazy with as I have an extended warranty. I'd just like to get a new exhaust that sounds good and adds a little power. Personally I think they all sound kind of good so any recommendations is appreciated. |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | I would like a little more sound also. I love the way my car sounds completely stock, below about 2k rpms. It's a really nice deep rumble. My gf always hears me pulling into the parking lot at her work to pick her up for lunch before I even get around to that side of the building. Would be cool to increase this a little bit. |
