Try to get pictures of the piston ring lands (good macro pictures) and poet them.

you could alway say you wanted to take pictures so down the road when you sell the car, you have photographical proof that it was a engine warranty issue, and it wasnt your fault incase the buyer doesnt believe you. I doubt they would just give it to you.

"macro" picture just means put your digital camera in macro mode so you can get an infocus close up picture. It is usually the button that has a flower as an icon.

is that all they are fixing is the piston they are not doing a whole short block and turbo? that is what they have been doing for most people but at least you got it fixed but i would ask what about all that metal that went though your motor and see what they say when it happed to me the cam races and bearings had to sanded out and there was enough metal in the oil pan to make a spoon but maybe yours was not that bad but you still need ask them about that.. but i am happy they helped you out..

Yeah load Gabe's map, it basically is the cost of a tactrix cable.

Open Source ECU ROMS

You have to register but it's free and just like you registered for iwsti.

Then go to 2005+ STI Modified and you'll see the thread its usually at the top.

I was in pretty close correspondence with Gabe as he was developing his rom. His #1 concern was getting knock down. I dont use it myself, just because I like to tune my own, but Im pretty sure his rom will be about the safest rom you can use, while still having power.

I'm gettin alil scared for when I get my Sti in a few months.. If I was to get an 07.. Basically once I get it. Go stg 1 EM right away?? What else should I do from the start to try and prevent the problem??

What if I get an 06? Any thing I should look out for?

I think you should avoid an 07 like the plague. 07 fanboys will be in here soon to flame me for saying this but the fact is that 07's have the greatest tendency of breaking rings. Because of this I bought an 06 leftover, saved some cash in doing so, and enjoy sleeping well at night knowing I can flog the piss out of it in the morning and not worry about it. 07 has better gears though.

I agree with you, if I had known about all this before I got the car I would not have bought it but that wasn't the case.

I definitely would love to be in your position and not have to worry every time I drive the car.

even though you have an 07 or 06 or whatever does not mean you are safe. If you mod a car you have no waranty, and you are putting more stress on everything. just cause the 07 happens the most does not mean other years are immune. Everybody has a risk and should be saving up for a new block before they mod it. just my 2 cents

+1. The factory '07 tune is a disaster waiting to happen - just ask anybody who's logged it in a full pull.
