No i believe in safety and reliability 100%. How i modded was explained accurately in my previous post. I didnt believe the first tuner so i tried a second one, and it confirmed the issue.

Give me the last 6 digits of your VIN and I'll let you know if it left the factory with the re-flash.

Its starting to sound like the 07's arent going to get fixed with just EM and that it has to do with bad factory pistons or ringlands.

I thought all of them had the hesitation issue. i could be wrong though. You can just go to the dealership and demand a reflash. I did that and they reflashed it.

So the very first run was the first time the mods were installed? They weren't run prior to the attemted tunning?

ok ive been lurking on these "another 07 gone" threads a while now. they do worry me a little bit. but i bought the car with 9XXX on it and it did have the reflash and i never felt any hesitation. right now im stage 2 with no problems but still. wtf subaru. i know if i ever do blow it up *knocks on wood* and they deny my warranty w/ the mods. i know i cant afford 10k for a new block. damn hippies and their lev2...

i had the tuner make me a map with the extra mods i added on top of stage 2, as soon as they were on without even turning on the car i had it flashed and prepared for them.

Ok, one more time here too. 07s are not bad cars, the tune is the bulk (if not all) of the problem, and the fix is quite easy. Get a tactrix cable, and flash Gabedudes basic stage 1 rom. It has the CL delay zerod, better AVCS timing, and massively pulled base timing, as well as tuned fuel with his wbo2, along with increased boost. He worked hard to keep the detected knock down to its lowest possible levels.

Last I heard (months ago) he hit a 13.3 on the dragstrip with it, which isnt bad at all for stage 1.

If you dont want to do this, just leave it stock and run the piss out of it. It will be under warranty if it blows.

This is wonderful news!!! Did this dealership say why the piston went bad?

You got ripped off by the dealer though. Why did you need to replace the heads and intake manifold, intercooler etc. All you really needed if it was just your rings was a short block which is ~$2000 plus about another $2000 to install.
You could have put a built motor and rotated turbo in for that price. They're the ones who screwed up your car they're liable.

That's awesome. Being that you had the problems before I would say not to install cobb stage 1. It would be worth your money to go get a safe protune. Using some elses tune for another car isn't the best idea either. You can use it as a base map and then tweak it for your car, two different cars need two different tunes that's why OTS maps aren't that good.

Thing I dont understand and this is why I think something else is going on:

1- 2004 STIs knocked AUDIBLE from factory due to the aggresive timing. We never heard of SOO many engine failures.

2- 2005 WRXs had the CL/OL delay and again we never heard of SOO many engine failures.

Cant be the non-audible knock wll damage a brand new engine in less than 5000 miles. The 2004 knocked prety bad, the same with the 2005 (their dyno graph looks like the 2007 with the delay. And they are still running strong.

Just my .02

they didn't tell me what was wrong with the piston i don't think. they just said it was messed up and i messed up the rings. wouldn't it be kind of a waste to get a pro tune now? on a stock STi? it costs a lot and it is far away from where i live.i thought the stage one would prevent the car from running lean. and someone said that Gabedude has made the map to have the lowest chance of knocking.
