$10K! Holy crap I had no idea a dealer charged that much for a new shortblock! Couldn't you have bought a bult shortblock for less than that?

Now I'm worried about my 06....I don't have that kind of cash to throw around that's for sure. I guess I was under the impression the shortblock could be replaced for about $3-4K

it needs a whole engine. not just a shortblock. (intercooler, longblock, turbo, EVERYTHING).

this doesn't make me feel good about my car at all. i've done some simple suspension work (sway and strut bars) only out of fear to touch the engine. as a daily driver i think the car has plenty of power already, but also because i dont want the dealership to have an excuse against the warranty in case something comes up. but sounds like people also have blown their completely stock engine. does anyone have any positive stories where the warranty was covered at all?

I have been runing a FMIC, with all stage 2 components and TUNED to run proper boost. So service time comes around, I go to dealer get oil changed like i normaly would. one day later i smell oil from my A/C, i immediatley popped the hood noticed the morons at the dealership forgot to put the oil cap on, take it back they made it sound like not a biggy, so the manager appologizes promises me a free $120 detail and hooks me up with a SPT oil cap, and a hood insulator to replaced the one soaked in oil. I trusted the dealership that they checked the oil level.. but i guess not?.. so about two weeks after this incident it happened.. driving to taco bell as i pull into the parking lot I hear this very odd noise coming from my engine.. my car was F*ng knocking. about 5 seconds later a huge white cloud of smoke comes out of the muffler and fills up the whole parking lot. car stalls out. wont start back up. i get it towed back to my house. so I take it to the dealer. tell them what happened and they said they would briefly look into it. AFTER 3 WEEKS OF SITTING OF THE LOT they finally get ahold SOA ( "their inspector was out of town" ROFL), they send pictures, another week passes, the inspector doesnt want to even bother coming down according to the dealership due to modificiations.. I told them i would get lawyers invovled, then and took my car to a real place, with humans.. 3 days later the manager calls my cellphone and suddenly he wants to be involved.. he tells me that SOA is offering to pay for breakdown, but they are unsure if it would be covered under warrenty. so the family and i decided that it would be a waste of time to keep the car there any longer and not acomplish anything due to the ignorance of the managers and service, and the future fees that WILL come up. Took it to three differnt shops.. they all said the same thing: " engine is completley locked up, the car was deprived oil.. anything that used oil for lubrication is bassicly F*cked ".. right now no one knows what caused it and the oil cap situation is questionable.. oh and im out of atleast $10grand+

.. my life story

There are a few threads, some guys even had minor mods but overall it's gonna get denied. If Subaru had an honest warranty i would have followed your mod path. Unfortunately they often have a "NO" policy so I figured that I might as well have fun with it because either way the bills gonne be on me. If not denied for mods, it's usually denied for "abuse"... FU SOA!!!!!!!!

Damn dude that's horrible. Sounds like you have a case though. I'd be willing to bet that you could get it covered if you get a lawyer involved. heck you may even be able to get reimbursed for expenses at other shops because "you felt they were incompetent to work on your car". Lawyer up dude. I'd be willing to bet a threat letter is enough to get it rebuilt.

Is there any documentation of them leaving the oil cap off and negligently not checking your fluids? If 3 independent shops write a letter testifying that oil starvation caused the damage and they left off the oil cap causing it to lose oil it's an easy case to win...

Edit: just wanted to add that i had paint chipping off the hood of my car 2 months after I bought it. I was told it was from pine pitch so warranty was denied. I threatened to lawyer up with testimony from a local body shop and got it painted the next week on SOA's tab

man.. its not even worth the effort and time anymore. a lawyer is just going to add more fees and it's not that easy to win a case against a corporation. i can almost guarantee they have more control over the situation than I do. they even attempted to convince me that the oil cap had nothing to do with anything and there is no possible way i could deprive an engine from a missing cap.

i could have swore the dealer needs to prove the modifications caused the failures or else its their fault.

read the beginning of the owners manual, says something like "warranty does not cover any parts failing due to modification"

i've pushed and harrased both the dealer and SOA with this topic many many times. same answer every time: " we dont need to prove anything if there are visible modifications"

Sorry to hear this man. Very bad situation. This is why you cannot completely rely on techs. Honestly though, if you didnt know you're oil cap was'nt on you neglect you're car. IMO I wouldnt even leave the dealership without doing a small inspection under the hood, as for any other shop. Thats you're responsibility, because people make mistakes. This is why I started changing my own oil and doing every single mod myself, no matter what it is. So I know EXACTLY whats happen and what I'VE done. I hate relying on other people, and "guessing" they did the right job. Good luck with the new motor though!

i wish someone knew the actual rights we have as car and warranty owners. I could swear they have to prove engine failure was due to the mod we did. ive heard stories of pissed off dealers who have to fix really modded up cars..
