I feel the same way. I'm scared to turn it on in the mornings because I fear seeing smoke. I'm scared to check my oil because I fear seeing some missing.....you get the idea.

Pretty nerve racking and I don't want to deal with it at all. I just want the car to work like it should, and be worry free.

That probably won't happen.

OP, I feel for you, I have 7800 on mine and I drive it like a grandma 95% of the time. I've gone weeks without hitting full boost.

I hope the dealer comes through, I think they will in the end.

Sorry to hear man. Keep us posted. Did the car drive OK despite the low compression? How did it feel power wise?

honestly, excuse my language but the car felt like a F$%#in minivan! haha. it seemed as if the more gas i press the SLOWER and more it would BUCK. it sucked, it only hit 7 lbs of boost and when you pressed more gas, you could hear the turbo sound like it was hitting full boost, but it would not go anywhere the RPM's would practically NOT MOVE. so it did not drive well at all, i hated it! you'll know if something is wrong with yours.

With soo many 97 failures, I am surprised that we have not collected info on the pistons, only one member did it and got bashed IIRC.

Any other evidence, I really think something is wrong with the internals

I hate reading these threads too, but it is really nothing we don't already know. Bad ringlands on some and others go do to the faulty tune and cyl. 4 det. Perhaps the more this happens the better chance the rest of us will have with SOA should we fall under simialr conditions. Until then, I'm not changing my driving style one bit.

My build date is 8-2006. Am i in the trouble zone or safe zone? i searched and couldn't find a what build dates were causing this problem. I cross my fingers everytime i drive my car hoping i do not get a cel or hear the knock noise. I check my oil every week and it seems to be staying constant. I have yet pushed my car hard knowing it could cause problems. The car is reaching the 8k mile mark and hope i get it reaches 100k w/any major problems.

What are the signs of the 4th cylinder going down w/out getting a compression test?

I'm in the same place as you as far as miles. Oil hasn't budged at all and I check it once a week. My build date is 3/07 I believe and bought the car in August of 2007.

Signs something is up are usually smoke on startup, smoke coming out of the oil filler cap when your car is warm and running. If you can log you might see values other than 0 or 1 in the cylinder roughness column. These are a few things that I watch.

Who wants a car back after 5000 miles that has already had the motor pulled? $36,500- 07- brand new -no bueno - they should have had it right like the 04-05's I heard the 06 isnt near as bad as the 07 but still has some problems as well with what they had to do to make it pass emissions
What probs do the 06 have?
