Talking Engine life after performance build

I am wondering how long can the stock short block and clutch assmebly really last with every bit of 450whp. I know that the short block is only rated at 400whp but I am thinking if you dont thrash it everytime you drive it; you might be ok for a while until I have the money to get one. That being said perhaps the clutch will go out no matter what. I've got a lot of money invested into the sti and the next plans are to buy a short block and a clutch kit. Am I on the same page with everyone, or no matter how I drive the sti the engine will let go under a week when I get my car back from harman? Any thoughts?

It's all in how you drive it. The harder you push it, the shorter it will last. Obviously, you need to get the best tune possible also, but even a great tune doesn't matter if you beat on it every second.

+1

modaddict's car has a 35R turbo kit, stock engine, so far so good for him

just don't push it so hard all the time and your engine will last

I'm in the same boat, so I've accepted the longevity of my motor is at the mercy of my tuner and my right foot. With that said I'm hoping for a few years since it's not a dd and I expect my clutch to give out long before though.
I will advise anybody to start saving for a built block before making a decision to go in that direction.

I had a 35R on the stock block with Methanol. ACT clutch, low boost 19 and high boost 25psi. Drove fine for 10k miles then sold the car and the new owner says it still runs fine
