Default 97 Subaru WRX STI ver 4 Problems.

Hi All

I'm happy to be part of your forum.
I have a problem with my suby and was wondering if youd be able to help me with it.
Its the idling at stand still. Its ok when its cold it idles at 1000rpm roughly with is great but when its been running for awhile ill pull up to lights and the rev's drop so low it cuts the motor out. quite embassarsing lol. if it dosent cut out it drops to 100rpm or so then raises to about 800rpm is this right???

Thanks,
Brad Simmo

Unfortunately, the US didn't get STIs until '04. So the GC STIs are a little-known quantity here. If I were to guess, it might be a dirty MAF.

Do you have a blow off valve ? maybe an after market intake? if so what brand. My old wrx had the same problem and it turned out to be the intake and the blow off valve messing with the A/F ratio.

Mass Air Flow sensor. Located on the intake. Do you have a K&N air filter by chance?

It would help if you could tell us what you have done to the car as far as aftermarket parts.
