| Lurker Car: WRB 04 STi Fav Mod: Cobb turbo back and Access Port (stage 2) Location: NY Posts: 5
IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | I have the Cobb turbo back with cat and AP normally running stage 2 93 (NY). For a little extra boost, I run stage 2 93 HWG (high waste gate duty). Even on cold days with "creep" maybe gets to 19.5 psi. By creep I mean that it's cold out, the TMIC doesn't absorb as much heat-soak and the air getting sucked in is colder, the turbo can work a little easier SO you make more boost, it's not really "creep". The only issue that I have is when running stage2 93 HWG I get alot of after burn. The computer pushes more fuel so at partial throttle it dumps too much and you get alot of popping. I am not protuned. From what I can gather you can download a pro-tuned map (ie. from Perrin or other) to your AP manager and upload it to your AP and then run it in your STi. However, it is still better to tune your car using the dyno or even better a laptop and real world driving. Both cost bucks. This ad is not endorsed by this member. IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | Go with a catless down-pipe and get your stock turbo's IWG ported, trust me- I noticed a big difference with my catless down-pipe. Look at it this way, if you go catless, porting the stock turbo's IWG is a must, especially if you want to be as safe as possible. I don't have my IWG ported, but I am extremely careful when I drive it- I know when my cars creeps, so I just take a little off the throttle and it stops. Yes, it does suck not being able to drive it at WOT in any gear or any situation, but it's still fast as fck! Next week I'm putting on a BIG turbo, fmic, meth injection, etc, so it really doesn't matter anymore Good luck! |

IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | http://www.iwsti.com/forums/engine-p...ock-turbo.html This thread has plenty of useful information.... To have the "safest" stage 2 STi you will have to, on top of the basic engine management and turbo back exhaust, upgrade your injectors and fuel pump to keep your injector duty cycles down low. Those modifications require you to get a professional tune. Even then you won't be COMPLETELY safe. To avoid boost creep you will have to either port your stock internal wastegate or go with an uppipe and external wastegate. I feel that if you went with the Cobb downpipe your chances of boost creep will be decreased due to the fact that it tapers down to a 2.5 inches keeping backpressure down. IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | what if your running a catless dp( for ex. invidia bellmouth) with a stock catback, would that restrict the flow enough to minimize overboosting? |

In terms of power modifications, I have a basic stage 2 setup with a catted downpipe. I have been debating to either A) purchase an uppipe with an EWG bung on it and then get a tial 38mm to go with it AND an aquamist kit or B) sell my titek 3 inch bellmouth downpipe for a cobb catless downpipe to combat boost creep. In both situations I would also get a fuel pump and injectors with a tune. It all depends on how much money I have. This ad is not endorsed by this member.
