| Silver Member | Im planning on installing a turbo kit on my 07 STI soon and have a question about Gruppe-s built blocks. Ive been told that my stock motor should be good to go with a tune around 320whp but I should start saving for a built block to be safe or if I want more power. Gruppe-s has one for approx 2800 bucks which sounds like a good deal (block, pistons, rings, crank and rods). Not sure on the quality or if anyone has one in their car....any thoughts? Some/most will tell you not to worry about the block this early on; however it doesn't hurt to be prepared AND I'll put $$ on you making more than 320 whp on 93... Not a WHOLE lot more, but wouldn't be surprised if you were making 330-335. ALSO, you need to make sure to specify that the dyno you're rolling on in an unforgiving, heartless ***** (but probably one of the most accurate reading ones around) AND the info on your turbo setup... | |

Would it be a bad idea to keep the stock block and just get pistons, rods, rings etc?

keeping the stock block isn't a bad idea at all. saves money and you can source the parts as you wish.

| Silver Member | I guess I should clarify my question... I am unsure if I actually should, at some point, get a new block or can I just get the internals. If I should get the whole badboy setup then is Gruppe-s a good company? I know Crawford makes good toys but its a tad above my payscale...any thoughts? |

Intake, catless DP, exhaust and a street tune. What I plan on installing (thanks to a friend of mine) is a Green, 850injectors, fuel pump, new DP with EWG and some dyno time.

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2008 Trader Rating: (4) | I wouldnt worry about upgrading your block.. Like was said there is guys pushing alot of power on the stock block... I mean all depends at your goal for the car but if its under 400WHP your good the stock block is capable... Dont fix it if it aint broke is what I say.. |

In my opinion, for $2800, you can't go wrong... From what I've heard, the Gruppe-S blocks are pretty nice; however, don't forget about all of the other goodies you'd need to go along with it (gasket set, oil pump, timing belt, tensioner, etc.) - that stuff can add up quick too. I'm going to stand by my original advice and vote that if you're REALLY worried about it, start throwing some change in a jar every month, put some masking tape on the jar and pull out a Sharpie to mark it as your "Motor Fund" - I really and truly feel that you have nothing to worry about; however, it NEVER hurts to be prepared! I wish I could give more feedback on the Gruppe-S motors, but have zero knowledge on them, outside of the positive feedback that Jan gave me on the one he installed not too long back. Hopefully some others can chime in with some good info.

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | the block will be fine with the green and supporting mods. i'd invest in the fuel pump asap with the issues some 07s have encountered. run the car with your new setup while saving up for either a new block or just new internals. it might never come to that but at least you'll have the money. if you don't need a new block, you'll have a stash of money for you to spend on whatever! |
