Default Stage 2 / Daily Driver / AutoX Setup

Hey all,

Recently I've been thinking about getting a custom tune for my 07 STi. I'm currently at a simple stage 2 setup with a Cobb AP v2 93 OTS Map, Helix Catted DP, and an Invidia N1 Race Catback.

Keep in mind any mods that I do to this car must be reliable, considering it is my daily driver, and I drive a lot. I also autocross the car a lot, and actually won the BSP class for the New England Region SCCA this past season. For a couple events, I was only running 1-2 seconds behind a 350whp EVO on r-compounds.

Therefore, I'd like all the mods to be reliable and safely done. I've been thinking about running the following setup:

Cobb AP V2
Helix Catted DP
Invidia N1 Race Catback
Stock Turbo

I want to add:
Custom AP Tune
Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump
700/750/800cc Fuel Injectors
Grimmspeed Ported/Polished/Ceramic Coated Exhaust Manifold w/ new Crossover pipe
APS Turbo Inlet (maybe? thoghts?)

Right now I'm also on stock suspension, and just plan to get sways in the meantime, to help out my RE01-R's.

Any thoughts on these additional mods? I want good reliable power, but quick spool, and therefore want to keep the stock turbo.

Thanks guys!

Sounds good...

You are going to also want some sort of boost solenoid, most tuners seem to like the 3 port ones. Also, unless you have extra money laying around I wouldn't mess with the manifold or inlet, gains would probably be minimal. Do you plan on upgrading your turbo in the future or something? 700-850s are pretty big for a simple stg 2...

I havent made any decisions obviously, but in the future a built motor and a turbo swap could definitely happen, but thats probably about a year or so away.

I have never gotten a custom tune before, but I just exchanged a few emails with the tuner who I am most likely going to use, and he said that injectors arent really needed at all on the stage 2 setup, but he does recommend the fuel pump.

Therefore, it looks like I'm gonna go with a Walbro Fuel Pump, and a custom tune, and go from there.

^^ sounds like a good recommendation from your tuner. The injectors are serious overkill, and will make it very difficult to tune, whereas the pump doesn't need a tune, and is a great safety net of sorts.

Good choice. Now for the most important one: do you have a TRUSTED tuner?

Its like open heart surgery...do you just pick a doctor that advertised in the newspaper? Or do you get some recommendations, and do some research.

This is your car's doctor in a sense...make sure he (or she) is a good one.

Sounds good to me. I would just add a +1 to going with an experienced tuner, too many people have been getting bad tunes recently for me to trust my car to just anyone. I did not see any mention of a cold air intake in your mod list. These can make some decent gaines given their cost when your car is tuned for them.

I've though about a CAI, but I've always read that with a simple stage 2 seutp the stock airbox is more than adequate.

I'm thinking about taking it to XX Tuning. I've been there a couple of times before for open-houses, and they always receive raving reviews. Not to mention, its only just an hour from me.

Check this guys they really good tuning STI 07:

1.) YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

2.) YouTube - Dyno Flash STI test drive and ICS Tour

This is what i worried about the STI 07 and check this link:

1.) cracked piston, not even 11k on 07 sti - Factory 2.5L Turbo Powertrain - NASIOC
2.) Blown engines on 2007 STi - COBB Forums

You can call this tuner ask for Mike Innovative Tuning - Performance Parts, Dyno & Engine Tuning Services

This is my set-up

1.) Serious stuff: forged pistons , rings, forged rods, forged crank

2.) Cobb AccessPORT v2

3.) Invidia V3 Down-Pipe

4.) HKS HI-POWER

5.) APS 65mm cai

6.) Walbro 255lph fuel Pump

7.) GTSPEC GENII Exhaust Header w/ Up-Pipe (SKU: GTS-PER-1016 ) is this good headers?

8.) DEFI BOOST GAUGE .

A.) Greddy Profec B and Apexi AVCR

I only need like 360 to 370 horse power , the reason i want to change the piston coz to be

more safer not to blown the engine or crack the piston and ring.

I have an 06 STi. I went from 290 WHP to 320 WHP with a custom tune.
I have a full 3" turbo-back exhaust (with cats) and AcessPort. I was using the stage 2 93 octane ots map previous to the custom tune. I did the Perrin turbo inlet.
Also, I had installed the GrimmSpeed Pnp intake and throttle body and the ceramic coated cross-pipe and up-pipe. Even though there is not a cat in the 06 STi up-pipe the GrimmSpeed one flows better than the stock one. Perrin's web site has some dyno data that shows a performance gain with an up-pipe on an 06 STi.
I would skip the injectors until you go with a bigger turbo, but definately do the Walbro fuel pump.

My original goals were for a pretty decent autcrosser and DD. I have now settled into kick butt DD short of a bigger turbo. See my mods in sig. My car has been very reliable. You are going a good direction. You may want to add an EBC so your protune will hold boost with better precision than OEM.

Don't forget when you need a clutch get one that's driveable, and suspension mods really make this car shine. I don't think Imprezzas will ever turn in with great precision, you can improve it...but you sure make them corner exit like a banshee controling direction with your right foot! Woot Woot!
