IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | They said it couldnt be done on an 06. Call it luck, call it ingenuity. I would call it fiddling, but I got it to fit with no cutting. As we know the replacement K&N filter as well as the Amsoil "sister" filter are a bit bigger than the one that comes stock with the APS CAI. My trick was to get the intake into the fender, but not bolt it up yet. I slipped in the filter and tightened it down with the provided clamp, then went to work making it fit. Yes it is a bit tight, but nothing is warped and there are no fitment problems. I had to fiddle a little bit with the provided bracket for the filter, but with some patients and moving things around a bit.. it works. Now I just have to fab up the last bracket to hold the hoses just behind the MAF and put my fender plug back in. That will most likely be done tomorrow. (Note: These pics were taken before I had everything put back together so it looks like I am missing a few bolts.) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Took it for a ride. No rattles and the filter is still tight on there. It is a bit louder than I was anticipating, but I dont have any complaints so far. Last edited by fourseasonsandles; 02-09-2008 at 06:43 PM. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2006 Trader Rating: (4) | Looks like it fits better in your STi than my FSXT. Give it a couple days to see if any rattles appear...plus you guys don't have this annoying brace that touches the pipe right where the filter strap is. So the bumper clip is not touching the filter on the right side, correct? |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | Yes the "bracket" I referred to in my above posts is touching the rubber "lip" of the filter. It is also touching the "firewall" and that bracket. None of the actual metal or filter material is touching though. (edit: ) Just for reference, side by side. (you may need to widen your window to see this side by side) As you can see, it is only the rubber base/lip that is touching the metal or bumper bracket. I am sure the smaller stock filter that comes with the new APS CAI. Or even the K&N filter that came with mine would be a better fit, but it is possible to get the larger filter into the car. ![]() Last edited by fourseasonsandles; 02-09-2008 at 03:20 PM. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2006 Trader Rating: (4) | I am trying to decide on WRB or Crinkle Black for the CAI now. I have prefilters to match either color |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2005 Trader Rating: (4) | I found a K&N precharger (pre-filter) that fits very well on the new longer APS filters. The K&N filter part numbers discussed here so far match the dimensions of the old shorter APS filters. K&N does not have a part that matches the dimensions of the longer filter (I looked). Anyway the part number for that precharger is RE-0810PK. Here are some pics. ![]() |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | It will fit, just unhook the intake from your after MAF hose. Turn the intake in your fender enough to get the new filter on and tighten it down. Then work at moving the intake to its proper position and connect it back to the MAF hose. It will be really tight, but it will fit. |
