Thanks for the write up. I was actually looking for the part number for a new filter when I found your thread.

What you do is measure the filter on the 70mm and compare it to the filter dimensions of the RU-3130 (filter I got to replace the APS 65mm filter): LINKY

If it is not the same then you can look on the universal site to find one that works: LINKY

APS CAIs actually use to have the K&N filter. They no longer utilize this filter. They utilize a custom filter. Here is the custom filter that all APS CAIs utilize ...

Hmm...mine came w/ a K&N filter...so according to your info, the 70mm and 65mm use the same size filter. Thanks!

Yes. APS switched out the filters and use a different one now. The new filter is much longer and narrower. The pictures that I took above of the new style filter are from a brand new 65mm unit.

Just got a used APS 65mm CAI.

So is there a way to get the "new" filter from APS or should I just get the K&N?

Do you know which of these filters would fit better in a 2007 fender? I read in this thread that some clips had to be removed because the filter is too long for the 06/07 fender.

Anyone have any measurements on the K&N filter?

Thanks for the help.

After about 6months of installing the APS 65mm CAI in my 04sti...I develped this crazy creak/squeak whenever I would dirve at ~50mph+ mostly on the concrete block style of highways...I checked everything so I thought...turns out, the nuts attatching the brass bracket to the inner fender had come off...you really can't tell unless you take off your wheel, open the liner and look in...like when you are cleaning the filter...as was the case.

To fix this, and to isolate the bracket a bit , I bought some rubber washers fom the hardware store...and it seemed to do the trick...not completely.

at high speeds over uneven highway conditions (sudden dips etc) it would still make the noise...the only thing I could think of was that my engine mounts were getting worn...rubber tends to wear prematurely here in Hawaii due to the heat...when I attempted to move the intake pipe (it is a VERY tight fit through the hole), there was a slight movement and I was able to reproduce the sounds slightly...so

I recently installed Cusco engine/transmission mounts on my 04 sti...that did the trick...the extra movement of the engine/trans was now eliminated and I no longer have the squeak...thank goodness.

IMO, These instructions are vague and misleading.

When you take out the snorkel, you end up with 2 holes in the fender. The one they show in this picture looks like the hole closest to the headlight, which is the wrong hole. I found that out the hard way.

******Warning: The RU-3130 K&N filter and APS CAI will NOT fit on an 06/07 STI.******

I just went through this last night. Save yourself the trouble. The OD of the K&N filter is TOO big.
