Default Does anyone run Plus gas on their STi

Does anyone run Plus 89 gas on their STi? or is it is always Premium 91+ ?
Besides power loss and I assume ignition retard. Anything else could happen?
With the gas prices these days you gotta ask yourself if Premium is a must. Especially if you daily drive it. What does Subaru say (what does it say inside the fuel lid?)

Please tell me you're joking!

Yes... something could happen like your engine popping. Please don't even think about it, especially on that rotated set-up.

premium is a must. you can go with 89 for emergency situations when you can't get 91. There've been people that have tried 89 and their timing has gone so far south that the car could barely run. e85 + 91 octane in a 50-50 ratio has worked for me, but my mileage suffered to the point it wasn't worth it.

Might be able to go 89 if your car was pro-tuned to it.

just spend the extra 20 cents, or couple bucks per fill up.

Don't do it. This one time, the gas attendant filler her up with 87 and I almost died. Yes, in NJ they fill your gas up for you, and you are not allowed to do it yourself. I put in a lot of that octane booster crap which probably made it bad to worse and I ended up driving around at 30 mph for a month to burn it off slowly (burn off a 1/8 tank, fill up with 93, burn another 1/8 tank, fill up with 93, etc etc etc). Car was not happy either.

Gas isn't as expensive as other things. Like orange juice

Premium is specified in the manual, premium is what my car is mapped for, premium is all it will receive. If I wanted to save a little money, I would sell the car and buy something less expensive. 10c a gallon is not enough savings for me to risk popping my engine (a 5-10k replacement with labor). Run the highest octane you can get. Your engine will thank you.

also from nj and i use 93. also had a bad experience with 87, when the gas attendant put it in my car. thank god it was only ten bucks and i burned it quickly. but the car hated me for it. i flipped on the gas guy too.

off topic but I think it's funny. My roommate has a 2002 BMW 330ci. It calls for premium. Apparently he loves his car, and will only run shell gas because Shell is undoubtely the best gas since they have a cool ferrari commercial. Ok, so he runs shell. What does he put in each time? 89. He doesn't see paying the extra 10 cents for 93>89, yet he just loves his car to the point he'll drive 10 miles out of his way for a Shell station.

hypocrites.

Why do you own a $32,000 vehicle but can't spend an extra $100 a year on proper gas?

I never said I was going to use 89 in my STi. Especially when modified and running 23psi.
The thought came accros me and just wondering if anyone did. Maybe WRX owners? I totally agree that 10c or 20c or even more cents a gallon is not enough savings to risk popping an engine.

maybe this explains it? OmegaMotors.com - The Truth About Gasoline

i never entertained the issue of putting in less that the cali craptastic 91 octane.. i would use 93 or 94 if it was readily available...

ok, i was wondering considering your mods...

i just don't get it that some people with cars that benefit from premuin choose to be cheap.
