UPDATE(good and bad):

Good: For those of you who are looking to do this VF34 turbo swap, I HIGHLY suggest you buy a Samco 90 degree elbow to replace the stock elbow that is BARELY enough slack to accommodate the new position of the VF34. I installed my Samco elbow last night and it worked flawlessly and fit 10x better. Much better piece with way more slack.

Bad: Well, I decided 400-500 miles of easy driving was good enough for the new turbo to be broken in. Yesterday, I decided to MAKE 100% sure that my car wasn't spiking or creeping. Basically, I wanted to know if XXTuning really did port my turbo or if they just charged Robert(StaticX313) and I a porting fee for our VF34's yet no porting was even done. Well, so I get on WOT.......1st gear-boost shoots up to 14.5 then tapers down(cool), 2nd gear-boost shoots up to almost to 15 then tapers down(cool), 3rd gear-same thing again, 15 then tapers down, 4th gear-16 then tapers down(ok, starting to get worried), 5th gear-NOT SO GOOD-->SHOOTS up to 19.5 PSI and BOOM I hit fuel cut, CEL is on, Cruise flashing., 6th gear-dont even bother with it because I know it will probably worse or just as bad as 5th gear.

Bottom line: had my VF34 been ported EVEN SLIGHTLY, 5th gear would not have shot up to 19.5 PSI. Let me remind you guys that I bought my turbo through Myles at RaceComp Engineering who deals directly with XXTuning for the VF34 turbo that Robert(StaticX313) and I bought. Supposedly it was 'ported' but I HIGHLY doubt it was even touched as Robert and I both experienced boost creep and boost spike with the same turbo.

ok, enough ranting for me today...

Ouch. Still - having dealt with and met everyone at XX Tuning I'd like to offer my two cents.

While I understand your logic on your assumption, this is a fairly new set-up you're running.....have you eliminated any other possible causes for the creep? It's tough for me to believe that XX would SAY they'd ported your turbo and deliver one that hadn't been. The only reason I'm playing Devil's advocate here is b/c I know these guys, and they're not dishonest, nor shady. They do a lot of business, both over the Internet and local....and I personally have seen them stay at the shop till 2 or 3 in the morning to finish tuning a customer's car, just to ensure that person is happy with their work. Personally, I don't believe that's the kinda place that would knowingly ship a product that's other than they promised.

I'd say get in touch with Myles or the guys at XX, and have someone confirm that the turbo was in fact ported. Human error is always a possibility in any business, and perhaps there was an oversight on what actually got shipped. I know XX will stand behind their work and product, and am certain they'd prefer to remedy this with you directly rather than read your unhappiness on a forum.

Not flaming you at all, or trying to fire you up.....just offering an objective opinion and I hope everything works out to your satisfaction. IMHO you're dealing with two very strong vendors - both in terms of service and integrity.

Stu...

If you only knew the trouble I went through just getting gaskets from XXtuning(yes, 2 times in a row they sent me insufficient gaskets-----nevertheless, the guy who was reponsible for this at XXTuning no longer works there--Myles knows about this too), then you'd kinda understand a fraction of my frustration at his point. I have already touched bases with Myles about this, and I know he'll take care of me. I'm assuming the same 'bright individual'(who was fired at the instant of the big gasket mishap with 20+ of Myles' customers) that forgot to send me gaskets from the start also forgot to get the VF34's ported.

Stu, I understand you're point clearly...and we are all human. For now, I'm just a little disgusted in general, but it doesn't help that I've had a negative experience with XXTuning with previous transactions.

As for any other possible causes for boost creep, I'd say no. If this means anything, Robert(StaticX313) bought the same exact turbo from XXTuning(VF34 thermal coated & 'ported') and STILL experienced boost creep & spike after weeks of frustration with trying to set up his Blitz SDB-iD. After going through many possibilities and eliminating them one by one, Robert deemed it was the VF34 that wasn't ported sufficiently or AT ALL for that matter.

I don't doubt one bit that the guys there are nothing but good people, I'm really starting to believe that this mistake was due to this former employee of theirs.

No offense taken, it's all in good discussion...don't worry Stu, I dont' hate you. :wink:

I can only imagine, and understand your frustration. They do a lot of biz, as I said, and while I don't know the fired individual (although I'm racking my brain, lol) I am inclined to agree with your assessment that he was the person responsible for the rampant errors you seem to have encountered....as your experience runs counter to the many I (as well as many others) have had with them.

And I hope not Matt! Just doing what I felt was "right" in light of your post, as I know and am friendly with these guys, and like to see them do well. I'd do (and have) the same thing for Myles on occasion, if ever it seems necessary. Please let us know what you discover, and I wish you only the best of luck with your ride.

Matt and I have talked, and he knows either way we'll get it taken care of.

thats all that I will say about it as there are other parties involved. I also will handle this differently in the future to avoid this from happening.
