Default An FYI to '07 STI customers I've tuned

With the various tuner forum conversations I had at SEMA it was bought to my attention that a combination of scenarios leading to the use of the Flat foot shift and launch control software on AP v2's has lead to a string of failures on '07 STI's.

This has not happened on prior model years, nor have I seen it happen on '07 WRX's. But, just to make sure, a few things.

A: I am going to hold off on taking any new '07 tunes where the individual wants the FFS/LC software installed.

B: All existing customers who have that installed should get a hold of me to have a new map issued that installs some extra safeguards and to dial back the way that system works

C: All existing customers are best served by NOT using those features until further notice.

I've escalated this all the way to Cobb, and I'm going to do what I can to help identify what's going on here and see if we can stop what's going on with the '07's.

Best of luck with this Jorge. I've been following the thread over on NASIOC, so I know what's been happening and I think you're made the correct call. Better safe than sorry.

So whats the deal, what type of failures? I have Lc and FFS enabled on my protuned 07 and I haven't had any issues. I mean I don't use them really, but the tune seems to be fine... Subscribed for more info

This is just if the LC and FFS features are used, right? LC/FFS doesn't effect the rest of the tune, correct?

Draco, I believe the LC/FFS maps are virtually the same map + the added functionality. If you set them to operate in an RPM range that you will never hit, then the supposid problem is eliminated. One thing I dont like about all of this is... lets say you set the LC/FFS rev point way over the stock limiter, I believe it will actually override the stock rev limiter. This would not mean anything during normal acceleration, but for some odd reason, I dont like the limiter to be over 7k.

Me for instance... I did not ever want the ffs/lc limiters to kick in and retard my motor while setting them, so I never actually put my foot on the throttle when raising the limit. I just clicked it up the cruise lever while idleing to what I thought was about 7k. Chances are I am not on the dot so I belive I just eliminated the stock rev limiter when not moving or when I have the clutch engaged. I dont like it.

How hard is it for a tuner to load my tune onto a non LC/FFS map?

StylesJim- I think I am going to contact Hill tomorrow and ask him what he thinks of this. Maybe he can set us up with our tunes on a non FFS/LC map. I never use these features, and think it would be better just to get rid of them all together.

When I am at WOT shifting from 4th to 5th, I have to rev match or else the car almost feels like the rpm's fell too quickly and the car sort of surges before taking off again. It is wierd, but the car doesn't shift smoothly unless I give it a quick blip of gas before upshifting to 5th. It only does it from 4th to 5th. I am convinced it is that blip the ECU does for emissions purposes any time you take it out of gear, and the FFS is being activated on it's own as a result.
Let me clarify:
-4th gear tops out ready for 5th
-Clutch in, gas out obviously
-Ecu blips the throttle as it does every time you take it out of gear, thus enabling FFS on it's own
-It's right after this process that my car just seems confused. When I engage 5th and let out the clutch, the RPM's shoot up and it feels like it slows the car down. So giving the throttle a quick push before letting the clutch out eliminates the surge and makes the shift smooth.

I'll let you know what he says.

RiftsWRX,

Can you explain a little more, like in general what has you so concerned?

Does this have anything to do with what feels like the ECU pulling timing after using the FFS or LC features a few times.

Can you explain why you feel that we should not use the feature?

Thanks

I too would like to know what Hill thinks since he also tuned my 07. But I was using the non launch control/ FFS map. Keep us updated. Thanks to Jorge for trying to crack the mystery of the 07 and all of thier issues not previously seen in other STI's before the 07's came out. Any of you guys going to the Agile Open house?
