Default Motul Oil

So I brought my car to the dealership for an oil change today and they were out of Mobil 1. I was at just under 3000 miles and NEVER go above that without changing my oil so I asked the tech what they could do. They offered to use Motul oil at no additional charge. I was like "meh" but the tech raved about how good this stuff is and how race car drivers use it etc. I must admit I was a little skeptical but OMG was she right! This stuff is amazing! And no Im not exaggerating here; my idle is smoother, valve train noise is almost gone and that faint ticking noise I hear if cruising at 3000rpms is gone. So far Im sold on the stuff but the real test will be to see if any of these sounds come back as miles are put on the oil. The only problem with it is the dealership charges $18/qt for an oil change with Motul.

Motul is a great oil, if there putting in 300v then it will cost a lot, 15-18 bucks a qt. I run 300v 5w40 and spool and longevity of the oil is 5 times better than most oils ive ran

I ran 300V 5W30 on stock turbo and loved it. Currently running 300V 15W50 and loving it as well. I need to switch to something thinner like 5 or 10W40 before the wheather gets too cold

i was told by a motul dealer that the 300v is not good for daily driver vehicles because the chemicals in the oil will evaporate over time and lose its protection over time. its great for track cars where the oil is changed frequently.

buy the diff oil from the dealer because the STi's have a "special blend"

Or you can use a synthetic such as Motul PA 90 which meets our rear diff specs. It is simply wrong to say to only use the dealer fluid because it is some odd, one-off mix. Silkolene meets specs too. Our diff is not the only one in the world which requires the specific spec. I also ran Castrol TAF-X when I was in europe.

I agree that only the dealership diff oil should be used. Not using it is only giving them ammunition to use against you if something breaks.

You realize that if you mod your car for increased power, they can claim the additional power strained the part causing the failure, right? If that is what you are worried about, you should leave your car bone stock.... Using an oil that meets Subaru specs will not void your warranty. Using an oil that does not meet spec will. Subaru can not make you buy X brand of oil. Motul PA 90 meets spec.

Russ, right on the money. I've used this stuff (Motul) with numerous trackdays; no issues. Personally, I use Motul fluids everywhere. Meets Subaru specs, and imho is some of the best stuff you can buy.
