This intercooler can take a lot of power. It is the nicest looking kit out there, imo. I don't care if it's made in china,sudan,u.s.a. All I know is that the intercooler works flawlessly. When my car was tuned and made 373whp on a mustang dyno. The intercooler was cool to the touch and heat soak was nonexistent. My tuner was amazed of how efficient wbr intercooler was.dave; this is one hell of an intercooler.
Gruppe-S comments
Actually I'm fairly certain our dyno reads lower than MZM but that's not really important. 390 WHP on a TMIC would be pretty much impossible though. A turbo big enough to make those kinds of numbers would necessitate a FMIC. The reason for this is that a turbo that big moves and incredible amount of air. This causes heat and TMIC + heat = heat soak. This Forester ran a TMIC before it ran a FMIC and it made 22 less WHP with the TMIC than the FMIC. Also, APS doesn't make any turbos bigger than the 30R .82 that will bolt on with the stock TMIC. In any event, I'm sure that Forester was plenty fast and that there is one or several Foresters that are faster than this one somewhere in the world.
WBR500whp fmic
Driving impressions:
Note: I am running the same map as before so a retune would probably help me out greatly.
-Definite increase of intake sound level (not sure if that is due to the CAI or FMIC piping or both)
-Boost is more instantaneous for VF39 (spools quicker than w/ Helix TMIC)
-Seems like the car just keeps pulling and pulling while just getting faster and faster. (Not sure how this has effected my power curve but it doesn't feel like it is diving off as much at the higher power band)
-More, smoother torque at low rpms 1500-2500
-ECU is still learning and I still need some time to fully analyze the response/power.

Clockwise flow
It just didn’t make sense to me why the clockwise flow front mounts chose to pass over the turbo and turbo outlet pipe before entering the throttle body. I thought the whole point of front mounts was to eliminate heat soak.

Counterclockwise flow
The WBR500whp fmic was designed to eliminate heat soak, while providing optimum cooling to the intake charge. Once the hot air from the turbo enters the intercooler it never feels heat again, until it explodes in the cylinder.

This is a break through front mount at a reasonable price. List $1295.00

Sound. This is what is most important to everyone. At idle, I was surprised that it was about as loud as my FAT, which isn't bad. It's still not obnoxious. Driving around is where this axleback shines. It isn't as loud as the FAT or my previous 2.5 TXS axleback. Probably a bit quieter than the WRX Prodrive I had on there. It's nice at highway speeds. I no longer have to turn up the radio to obscene levels to enjoy it. No highway drone whatsoever. It's not as aggressive as the FAT, but aggressive exhausts are for riced out Honda fartboxes anyway. I'm 38. I would like what hearing I have left to last me til I drop dead. This axleback will help.
All in all it is a good alternative to all of the louder 3 inchers out there and is also a bit quieter than the 2.5 Prodrive which is probably the most popular "quiet" exhaust for a Suby.
The price is also better than pretty much any other axleback you can get.
Good work Dave.

Default axleback report

I finally got around to putting this on tonite. Impressions:

1) Fit. It took me a bit of wrestling to get it on because the flange appeared to be slightly off. I could have opened the holes up a bit but I just removed the rear hanger (the one that has the threaded bolt and I was able to twist the axleback around slightly to line up the holes. I have a maddad midpipe with flex section. I didn't have a problem lining up my FAT 3 inch axleback so I think it might be the WBR axleback that was slightly off but a little musceling got it to fit fine. 5 minutes with a bigger drill bit would have worked too, but I was limited with my light and the other hangers were already attached. I didnt' want to pull the whole thing back off.

2) Finish. It looks pretty much as described. I like the look and when I finally got it on it fits well centered in the bumper cutout. There was some masking tape still on the axleback where the main pipe enters the muffler. This was used during the painting/powdercoating process to make the muffler black. They didn't remove the tape so I had to get out my knife and do some scraping. It didn't come off easily and there are still some remains there but it isn't noticeable unless you're under the car and I figure the heat will probably make short work of it anyway.

3) Sound. Well, I've had this exhaust in my garage for over a week and it's been killing me not to have time for the install. I finally got a spare hour yesterday and bolted it on. Easy install overall and no alignment issues with my adaptor. Just cut a couple of gaskets from a spare exhaust gasket sheet I had laying around (used the adaptor to trace templates) and bolted it up in about 30 minutes.

One note to anyone with a Drawtite hitch: THE EXHAUST IS A TIGHT FIT! The Drawtite doesn't allow quite enough clearance for the exhaust tip with the stock hangers. I muscled it in, but the top of exhaust tip is now sitting flush against the Drawtite crossbar. So tightly against it in fact that it doesn't move - at all. I'll have to get some longer hangers or extend the stock ones with some looped clamps. For now, it seems fine. Absolutely no banging/rattling against the hitch (it's just too frickin' tight to move).

Sound:
This is what everyone wants to know of course. In my opinion, it *rocks*. I was worried when I first cranked the motor, because it seemed fairly loud, but since I've put a few miles on it (have about 1.5 hours on the car since install), the tone has mellowed a but. In general, it has an excellent, deep bass drum pounding at WOT and a low burble at cruise and idle. On the highway, I have *way* more wind/road noise than exhaust noise. Overall, I'm quite happy with the sound. My brother thinks it sounds like his stock Harley exhaust at WOT when he is wearing his full face helmet. I tend to agree, although the note timing and tone seems slightly different to me.

My 2.5 year old son asked me "is it a race car daddy?" (he's into the movie "Cars" right now) on the way to the post office this morning. He loves it, so it's kid approved. :icon_wink:

cheers,
Scott

Can I get this fmic with black piping instead of the chrome. I'm trying to keep my car sleeper and I don't want the bling of the piping in my engine bay.

Also is this fmic compatible with the k&n typhoon intake and or what intakes are compatible with this?
