Phenolic Thermal Intake Manifold Spacers
Do you know what your intake manifold sits on?...a superheated boxer engine. If you don't know already, the cooler your intake air is the more HP your car will achieve. We present you the answer to this age old problem, raising the intake manifold off the engine with GrimmSpeed's new real Phenolic Intake Manifold/TGV to Engine Thermal Spacer.

Applications:
STi 02-08

Pricing:
3mm $65 Shipped
8mm $85 Shipped

Phenolic spacers have been used for years by many other specialized automotive companies, but this is very new technology to the Subaru world. The 3mm version is for cars with top-mount intercoolers and the 8mm version is for cars with a frount-mount intercooler or no intercooler at all.
  • Greatly reduces the transer of heat from engine to intake manifold
  • One of a kind true Phenolic material, not cutting board material like others.
  • The cooler your intake temperature is the denser the air is which leads to more power
  • Direct bolt-on. Users may reuse stock bolts intake manifold.
  • We have installed both with and without OEM Subaru Gaskets and have had no issues with either way. We do recommend using 2 sets of oem gaskets however, one on both sides of the spacer.
  • USA made

How dificult is installation of the 3mm spacers? I understant the manifold needs to come off, but I'm not sure how hard that is. What are the real gains or drop in intake temp?

Install pretty much involves lifting the intake manifold enough to slide the spacer in.

Direct Data from Grimmspeed " The intake ran 30 degrees F (17 degrees C) cooler at cruise and at least 50 degrees F (28 degrees C) cooler at idle; According to my dyno plots, I gained up to 7 horsepower and 11 ft-lbs of torque over the major portion of the power curve."

But how much time is involved in "lifting the intake manifold"? I am just curious because I have never done it. Do you offer a package with the 4 OEM needed? Price?

Couldnt really say how long it will take, depends on your mechanical ability and if your in a rush to do it or taking your time.

PM me if your interested in a price with the OEM gaskets.

Uppipes and EWG are now available!

Grimmspeed UpPipes

Adding a non-cat'd up pipe is one of the first things you should do to your Subaru. Arguably one of the best $/HP ratios. Due to emission reasons Subaru has to put very restrictive cats in the exhaust system. With the GrimmSpeed up pipe, these cats are eliminated. Another great feature of the GrimmSpeed up pipe is that the inlet is gasket matched so you have a perfectly smoothed out exhaust flow compared to the big step that that tiny stock inlet has.

Features
  • massiave SS flanges
  • 10+whp gain
  • minimal internal steps for maximum flow
  • -complete stainless steel construction(pipe, flex section, flanges)
  • -optional ceramic coating
  • -weight reduction over stock piece
  • -flex joint that is NOT located in the bend which adds life expectancy to the flex section. many other up pipes have a flex right in a sharp bend so all the exhaust/turbulence is hitting up against it.
  • -reduce turbo lag
  • -increase exhaust flow to turbo
The GrimmSpeed up pipe is specifically created without an EGT bung. The ecu does not use the egt sensor for air/fuel adjustments. You do not need the egt sensor. If you would like to keep tabs on EGT temperatures the correct place to do it is on the exhaust manifold right after the exhaust ports, this is the only place where the correct temperatures can be taken.

Applications:
04-07 STi

Pricing:
UpPipe $179.99 Shipped
Thermal Coating add $19.99

We also carry the RemFlex Graphite Up pipe gaskets which are recommend for a leak free system.

External WasteGate UpPipe w/ dumptube (38mm)

An external wastegate allows the exhaust gases to be diverted prior toentering the turbo. Dumping the exhaust gas prior to the turbo helps with boost control, maintains boost longer in the rpm range, and extends the life of your turbo. Our pipe is fully built stainless steel EWG Up pipe and stainless steel dump tube for turbo Subarus. Monster thick SS flanges that will not warp. We have added a flex section which extends the life of the product and will lead to less exhaust leaks because the pipe can flex vs. warping the flanges in a non-flex setup(inturn creating leaks).

WHY DO YOU NEED IT?
Reason for switching to an EWG setup includes:
  • Quicker turbo spool by allowing the exhaust gas to exit pre-turbo. There is alot of turbulence in the stock turbo at the internal wastegate so by moving the wastegate out of the turbo you get rid of this nasty turbulence thus improving the effiecency of the turbo as well.
  • More efficient wastegate design that has a bigger diameter than stock allowing for the exhaust gas to be released quicker.
  • Hold peak boost longer. This allows you to run a lower peak boost and increase HP at the same time.
  • Much larger than the stock internal wastegate
  • No more boost creep...EVER!
GAINS?
Users should expect gains in the 15-40hp range when tuned for the EWG setup.

Another unique aspect of our package is that we include a bracket that holds your stock internal wastegate shut. This is great because you will no longer have to weld your turbo door shut which means you have no chance for leaks and you can revert back to stock anytime you want with no hassle.

Applications:
04-08 STi

Price:
EWG Kit $319.99 Shipped
EWG Kit w/ 38mm TiAL Wastegate $569.99 shipped
Ceramic Thermal Coating add $29.99

PACKAGE CONTENTS
EWG Up Pipe
Dump Tube
Area1320 Bracket to hold stock wastegate closed(no more welding!)
-TD04 or VF Series turbos
5 Studs for Up Pipe
2 Allen head bolts for dump tube>wastegate

I actually installed these gaskets and loved them. I have recently removed them but plan on getting a new pair soon. If it is your first time removing the manifold, I suggest you either pay someone to do it, or follow instructions to the t as it can get extremely confusing. The first time I did it it took me all day and I did it the wrong way. I now have the intake manifold removal down to about 1.5 hours.

Can these spacers also be used to raise TMIC? Maybe I'm wrong but I swore some people here have done that.. Also this uppipe if you get it with that coating you will not need heat wrap?

No heat wrap isnt necessary if you coat the piping, I believe most coating places prefer you dont wrap the stuff they coat as it can trap moisture etc. The 8mm spacers are designed for FMIC users, not sure it would work out well with a TMIC.
