Default what is a protune ?

IF i have a Cobb it is my understanding that a protune is a map that is put into the Cobb AP and you can switch back and forth to the protune map and the map that came on the AP and back to the stock map ??? IS this correct ??? And if i just have a turbo back will i notice a big difference with a protune vs. the map that comes on the AP ??

thanks !

a protune is when a tuner actually tunes your car whether it be a road tune or a dyno tune. but everything is set according to your mods and your engine. The cobb stage 1 or 2 maps are just generic maps that everyone can use. Getting a protune is definately the way to go if you want power and a safe running car, if placed in the right hands that is.

Pro-tuner is a commercial tuning program sold by Cobb. It is used by Tuning shops.

Street-tuner is a private tuning program sold by Cobb. It is used by individuals such as you and I.

Each program will produce a map specifically tuned by the user, and specifically tuned to your car. It will then be loaded into your AP, and into your car.

most important part of that response. There are plenty of reviews of tuners on this site. Go with one that people recommend.

Pro Tuner / a.k.a Access Tuner is a tuning tool which allows tuners to make custom maps for Access Ports

Generally Subarus respond very well to custom tuning and fine adjustment.

Off the shelf or base Cobb maps are very good and safe but they must be designed to work with a whole range of individual vehicles and work saftely. Often this means a significant margin of saftey is built in.

Getting a custom tune is good for several reasons

#1 You data log and test how your vehicle is working

#2 You can gain additional power over base maps by optimzing the tuning for your individual car

#3 Those with unique parts combinations often find that generic base maps dont fit their formula.
