Default What is needed for 1/8 NPT OP Sender in Galley plug install?

There is not a clear answer on exactly what you need to install a 1/8 NPT oil pressure sender in the galley plug under the intercooler. I understand that the tap on the galley plug is not 1/8 NPT so some type of adapter will be needed. Is there a place I can pick one of these up? I also dont want to pay 20 bucks for a 3 dollar part.

This place has several options or ideas for adapters. Do NOT cheap out on something this important, a failed or wrong sized adapter can lead to very serious problems. This is something you want to do once and do it right. Personally I would get a 1/8-27npt to 1/8-28bspt adapter of some sort, make sure you use teflon tape on the threads.

The dealership should sell the plug and it's a subaru part, so just call and ask them for it.

They don't, the plug Subaru sells is threaded 1/8-28 bspt. Op has a 1/8-27NPT sender. There is a subtle difference.

Thanks! Thats exactly what I needed...beats the 20 dollar price on the wrxtra site.

Will the rubber gasket that comes with that be good enough for the seal, or should I get a metal gasket?

I thought the oil gallery plug was 1/8 BSP? if so, this is the adapter you want:
http://www.autometer.com/cat_accesso...il.aspx?vid=59
you'd want to use tef tape or similar sealing agent for the NPT, but the bsp shouldn't require it.

The oil galley plug itself is an M18x1.5 thread like an O2 sensor, the thread in the oil pressure sender part is 1/8-28 bspt thread. The part number listed above should be correct. Teflon tape is good insurance.

That will work, but then you also have to buy the Subaru galley plug as well. The issue I think some have had with that is the height of the sensor after installing with the adapter in the galley plug getting into the coolant line that goes over that area, it gets real tight and you can end up crimping the sender, wiring, etc.

I kept the parts box it came and double checked the part number I listed above as correct (always good to have laying around if you need to re-order for some reason ). I just installed it as is, just don't overtighten the O-ring seal. This type is a replacement for the Subaru galley plug but has NPT threading instead of the BSPT threading. I would like to claim the find for this, but I found it on one of the other sites somewhere doing a google search. I think Summit, etc. has similar adapters.

gotcha, that can be used instead of the subie gallery plug, or use the one i posted for the subie plug
(so basically, he needs either:
adapter above, which directly fits sensor and gallery hole,
OR
subaru gallery plug, plus the adapter i posted.
either works, but yours is the better solution(and one I wish i'd seen before buying my solution. c'est la vie.

I feel the need to interject here, since (as supermarkus mentioned), this is not a place where you want to sacrifice your engine's safety to save a few bucks. When we were developing our oil pressure sender installation kit, we bought several of the ISSPRO adapters referenced above for testing. While the ISSPRO adapter does have the correct threads, we did not feel that the male thread portion (M18x1.5) was long enough for proper thread engagement. The threaded hole in the block has a heavy chamfer that reduces thread engagement slightly as well. We copied the factory plug for thread engagement and also chose to retain the crush washer feature, since it was decided that it offered the safest secure seal. Obviously, my info could be construed as biased, but I wanted everyone to know the criteria that we were using when we decided to make our own adapters, instead of simply buying the ISSPRO item, which would have been more convenient and much more cost effective.

Regards,

I just did my defi install yesterday and put in an Imperial oil temp gauge (F) in using the subaru galley plug. As I understood the Imperial gauge temp sensor is NPT and the galley plug in BSP. Dont want to sound chincy but I just put the NPT sensor into the galley plug, a dab of blue locktight and a couple wrenches and it went right in, no leaks, works great. I dont see a need to buy an adaptor. Just my .02

^^^that's all well and good for now, but when you're talking about installing something into your $30K car's engine block that's pressurized with 100psi of oil, spend the extra 2 or 3 dollars and buy the proper adapter.
