USB support is going to be for PC <--> AP only because the OBDII port already in the car ain't changing anytime soon -- and it's serial. That probably means that AP <--> ECU downloads/uploads will still happen at the same speed or only marginally faster.

From what I have seen and read so far the only reason to wait is to have a device that saves a copy of *your* *specific* ECU's programming, and reloads that copy when unmarrying the unit. That is the biggest difference between old and new I see so far. Another reason to wait might be for the USB capability but IMO that's not worth waiting 12 months for.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a long delay... Cobb products never seem to come out on the release date, or anywhere relatively close.

They will basically tell you the same thing. Personally, I wouldn't wait a year just to get USB and a color screen. I would have kept mine (and not sold it) except that since I am a moderator and I referree the StreetTUNER forum, I see it as my responsibility to keep up to date on the Cobb products (yea, I'm dedicated).

If people read the link given in post #8, Cobb has already given the information about what the new one can and cannot do.

The new AP is not designed for people who already have one. That's why it's not appealing to people like you. It is, however, appealing to people like me who are contemplating a first purchase.

Probably the same reason why I bought a 2006 STI instead of a 2005 Sti .

Exactly what I'm waiting for. I will wait...or go the tactrix/openecu/enginuity route.

I read the link and have talked to those much more in the know (if you get my drift). No need to school me on the new AccessPORT - I can pretty much guarantee you that I know much more about it than almost anyone here.

Enginuity does the same thing and it's free.

The one thing that will be noticeable will be the speed increase in the flash process. The new AP will flash much quicker. Does this really matter? IMHO, no.

The other possible advantage is that the new AP will contain more memory. For those guys using StreetTUNER this **might** mean that you can now store everything in a base map instead of having to use both a base map and a realtime map.

Oh, no, I'm not trying to school you. I just pointed it out because a lot of the questions people are asking are answered there. It would save you the trouble of having to repeat the information.

Then, you stated your personal reason why you wouldn't get one. I responded by giving my personal reason why I would.

I'm still waiting to get my AP as I've been on the fence about power vs suspension mods. The biggest sticking point for me with AP is the fact that you lose your cars specific ECU map. Not that it is a huge deal but the USB interface is quite nice as well. The 1/4 mile timer might be fun if you want to use it to gauge performance changes and don't want to buy a g-tech or something similar.

Can you download your car's ECU info, using something like Enginuity, before flashing it with Cobb's stuff?
