Default Cobb AP Questions

I have been searching and haven't really found answers. So I decided to make a new thread? A freind of mine has a 04 Sti and a AP. What is the best way to start off in flashing the ECU. What Base map should be on the Ecu if I want to try Stage 2. Do I flash Stage 2 base map and then flash realtime Stage 2? I want to test Stage 2 on 93 oct. but I am not sure if that map will work with his mods. He has 2.5'' Borla Hush cat-back and perrin upipe and AEM CAI. We know that a Dp is the real deal and up-pie does't do much without Dp. The 2.5'' cat-back and the upipe aren't his mods. They were on the car when he bought it.

I had already posted on another thread but wanted to make a new one just for my Newbie Q... Thanks Zeus.

AP related posts go into the ECU Tuning forum. The StreetTUNER forum is for Cobb's StreetTUNER product.

To answer your question, you want to flash a base Stage 2 93 octane map. That is all you need. The base Stage 2 93 octane map has the realtime data for Stage 2 93 octane.

HOWEVER, with that said - DO NOT use a Stage 2 map! This map should only be used with a downpipe. The stock downpipe has 2 catalytic converters. Stage 2 programming is setup for running higher boost with a significant reduction in exhaust backpressure. If you are still running the stock downpipe then do not run Stage 2! Get it? You need to use Stage 1 or else the huge exhaust restriction combined with higher boost numbers will cause high EGTs and your car will be seriously struggling to get the exhaust out.

Sorry for the mix up. I realised when I already had posted it. Okay so now I now about the Stage 2. We thought that Stage 2 just wouldn't perform as good as with a DP. Okay now we know. His car did seem to have problems when it was in Neautral and the lights started to turn on and off and sounds strange exhaust sounds. But we just flashed back to stock. The car is going tomorrow morning to a Subaru specialist licensed by dealer.

Can you clear up the difference between base and realtime. Base map flashing is limited to 100 times but realtime is endless right? The stage 2 was inside the AP should we just use that? A Protune is that when someone tunes a map specially for your car with your personal mod setup?

Do NOT use the Stg. 2 map...Like wolf said, the Stage 2 map was designed for use with an aftermarket DP. If your friend doesn't have one, then don't bother going stage 2. Flash the stage 1 map instead and wait for the DP.

Getting a protune with just a catback is useless....wait until you have some more mods.

Okay the thing is he has always had a 3'' turbo-back system on his Imprezas. The funny thing is that he bought the Dp and 3'' Borla Hush cat-back system out of his present Sti into the last one which was a 2.0L Sti. The 2.0L Sti had full turbo-back system, CAI, Boost controller, and BOV and it performed. He bought the U.S. spec Sti off of his friend.
He was going to buy a Dp a few weeks ago but didn't do it because of problems with car and Ap. So you guys recommend getting a Dp before protuning or what? A Protune is a protuned map for your car with it's mods right? Who do you recommend getting a Protune from? Can I just send them an e-mail or?

Thankz so much for replies...

I wouldn't recommend protune without a downpipe at the very least. You'll definitely free up more power from the full TBE with a protune then with a stage 2 though. Is it worth the money for a protune license with just the TBE is up to you. As for places to go, I mean if you're willing I'd say head down to Georgia and visit either Doug at Topspeed or SS at Subaru of Gwinett. But I mean thats if they don't come to a place around you.
