Don't forget that the ECU is still going to 'learn' and adjust as time goes by. I think you might be obsessing a bit over the boost numbers; just load a map, drive the car, let things settle in for a while.

beesti, I agree with wdb. Just load up the regular Stage 1 map for 91 oct. and drive it like you usually do. Don't drive it like a grandma because you a scared of 17 psi of boost. In a week or use the data logger two check the boost again. There is no reason to get all excited over such a small issue. I promise you're not going to break anything. Just drive the car and have fun!

My bad Rac, it was in the detailing thread.

Beesti, I agree with the others. Let the computer learn things and check it in a week.

No worries man. Thats why this forum is so great. I had the same concerns as you when I was just begining to mod. I know the feeling of wanting everything to be perfect and nothing to hurt your baby. I am still like that. Just check out this thread. Anyway, be careful and GO DRIVE!

i emailed cobb and this is what i got:

I drove the car fine and recorded the ECU’s boost reading using both Cobb’s Live Boost Reading and Tari’s ECUexplorer. I hit a peak of 17.3 PSI on that stage 1 map. I was advised by forum members and other tuning companies that a boost level of 17.3 PSI for stage 1 was too high and I should send the “Stage 1 LWG for California Fuel”. I did use the LWG map. However, I hit a peak of 14.9 PSI on the LWG map. I do not have boost creep since the downpipe and exhaust are stock. My engine performance mods are completely stock aside from the K&N panel filter in the stock airbox. The only performance mod I have is the AP.

In the end, I do not know which map I should use. On one hand, the LWG map boost levels are too low (14.9 PSI), and the standard map “may” be to high. I do now know how safe it is to run stage 1 boost at 17.3 PSI.

Summary:

Stage 1 Cal Fuel – Peak reading on AP and ECUexplorer is 17.3 PSI in 5th and 6th gear.

Stage 1 LWG Cal Fuel – Peak reading on AP and ECUexplorer is 14.9 PSI in 4th, 5th, and 6th gear.

I don’t know which map I should keep and let the ECU adjust to. I’ve been told that it would take a few days for the ECU to learn. But which map should I run to let the ECU learn from? Is 17.3 PSI too dangerous for stage 1 on stock engine components?

Thank you!

If our standard mapping does not optimally perform we highly suggest you see your local ProTUNER.

Take care,
Christian.
just thought i would share with all of you.

haha, you tricked me for a minute with the user name change.

Anyway, you are not at risk of damaging anything by hitting 17 psi only in 5th and 6th gears. Cobb is just telling you that to cover themselves.
Can you feel a difference in power between the regular Stage 1 map and the Stage 1 LWG map?

yea, its noticable since its like 1.5 -2 PSI difference between the standard map and the LWG map. you're probably right, about cobb covering any blame that could potentially be pointed to them..

Billy, do you have the boost table from the TARi? That can really help. You can put it into excel and display here. Another member did it and it shows all the boost values all accross the RPM range, that will help.

If anyone else knows how to go about it, please let me know. I was reading the TAri manual and it was a little scarey, filled with warnings and stuff...

yea, i'll prepare some tables tonite with a fresh run. i've also discovered that MRP (manifold relative pressure) is the actual boost levels. yay for that.

Billy,

The target for the Stage 1 mapping is 16.5psi +/- 0.5psi depending on the vehicle condition. I think you would be fine on the off the shelf Stage 1 mapping you were using before. A 0.3psi variable is nothing to big to be concerned about. Your ECU will adjust the more you drive your car.

Cheers,
Justin
