I wouldn't know what to tell you as far as the sound goes but I would say use your good judgment and keep an ear out for it.Quote:

| Junior STI Driver | Just went stage1 I now notice the following: -smoother acceleration -predictable power -low rpm hesitation gone Is it worth $500? Not for me. I was just looking to get rid of the hesitation; $500 was a little to pricy for me. All the other bell and whistles the AP comes with are nice but not necessary for my driving style/plans. I'm just glad I didn't pay retail. Last edited by GIXY2K; 08-30-2008 at 05:13 AM. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | Just went Stage I tonight! Bought a brand new APV2 from a Cobb distributor for $550 brand new (got it at cost). Initial observations (after install and 30 min of driving on freeway): 1. The box that the APV2 came in was marked with the model number AP-SUB-002. I believe I have seen ones that end in -004. What do yours end in? 2. The APV2 did NOT have any maps on it. I downloaded the newest ones (economy map and most importantly stage 1 93 octane which were all V1.11. Is this the most current map? What were people referring to when they said 1.04? 3. I actually kinda left and chatted with some people when the car was being flashed so I have no idea if anything went bonkers during the install process. All I know is that it completed in less than 30 minutes and the car started up just fine. For the first few minutes, idle was rough, but now it is completely stock again. 4. I didn't really notice all that much difference in the drive home today (30 minutes of highway). I hit peak 17 PSI boost in 3rd and 4th (didn't try any of the other gears). But it is actually 16.5 psi because even stock, my Defi's read 0.5 higher - they used to read 15psi. So I'm happy with this. 5. I'll probably have to drive it more to get a feel for any differences. It should smooth out (not that it is rough right now), but I'm guessing the ECU will need at least another 75 miles to learn everything. Should I really try to vary the RPMs and throttle position in all gears? Or just drive normally? DP and CBE should be here in a few weeks so I'm looking to do this step by step. |

Here's my theory: Since going Stage 1 with Cobb's lates firmware the hesitation was non-existent, I think that it is Subaru's throttle-learning algorithm program that keeps Fookin Up! After a re-flash to stage 1 the hesitation returns gradually until getting back to where it was before. Cobb needs to find a way to circumbent this throttle-learning process. This is one of the reasons I spent $700 + tax on the APv2... Ok, it was just $400 -- Still, who has nowadays $400 buring in their pocket?
