Default Re: AP Stage 2 Club

Just joined the AP stage 2. Maddad V2 one-piece single cat DP and a Maddad Dual-tip whisper. Still using Stock intake, but I have a Godspeed FMIC I got off ebay and I think I need something else to make that work.

Couple weeks back I had a piston fail due to that all-stock pinging I had. (extended warranty FTW, paying for 3 more pistons cuz the dealership won't cover and not being able to just get cosworth drop ins FTL) after getting it back and breaking it in I got knock again and said **** it and installed an AP stage 2 and dp, exhaust at once.

Not a single det event on on 91 oct stage 2 ots from cobb. We have 92 oct at the local shell, but figured it's probably safer on 91 (less timing?) than 93 ots.

Prior to the install I was getting just under 1 bar in 3rd and 1bar in 4-6th gears. Now I just over that...~1.2-1.3 bar. It hauls...not a huge difference, but it's noticeable. Maddad Whisper dual-tip is louder than I thought it would be, but love it. Had perrin dual on stock dp for a while and hated it for being too loud. It uses a bit more fuel, but that might just be the learning kicking in some (as it's only been a week).

Install I thought would take an hour....took 3.5 hours (just me me and my wrench). PB blaster is a requirement and holy ***** why do they need so many bolts for that heat shield (should be 2-3 for that piece of tin)! Getting the 02 sensor back in was a hassle. Getting the bottom bolt in on the dp is a pain. Getting the TMIC back on is a pain (getting the hoses onto the turbo and intake at the same time-there must be some trick to that). Forgot to tighten up the bolts on the bov and car died at the bottom of the hill (FREAKED ME OUT), but I noticed it and finger tightend it enough to get me back to a wrench (stayed out of boost at the same time).

Maddad fit without the kartboy hangers I ordered with it. I may still use them as it's a little snug under the bumper.

Lesson learned...stock ecu will kill your motor. AP is safer! I'm still disappointed in the piston failure on a stock motor, but I think it will last a long time now.

Cobb AP v1 - $350 used
Madddad V2 catted dp one-piece and whisper dual tip was I think $1100 with the hangers and all the parts for install. Very happy with the service from these guys.

+1 for cobb
+1 for Maddad

Slippen, what year STi do you have? From the knocking I assume a 07, but you are using a V1 AP which I thought doens't work with the 07s? Do you have a early 04 with the original tune on it or something?

just joined the stage 2 club yesterday. recently had a custom tune done via Enginuity,it was hauling arse but some things just didnt seem right so i went and bought a used v1AP and the street tuner. reflashed to stage 2 last night and i must say as the car runs alot smoother than my last tune and stock,it doesnt really seem to be that much of a difference as far as power over stock. but oh well, thats what the street tuner is for, cant wait to get to tuning and running strong again without the compklications.

but overall i am pleased with how much smoother the ride is,feels like a brand new engine.

ahh thanks for the great info. what kind of dyno did the tuner use? it doesnt seem to be a very big difference at all between the OTS vs. protune.

like you said in your post it feels like something is robbing you on the top end. but oh well,we will see what we can come up with next month when we start tuning again,my tuner is pretty good, had me running neck and neck with his 12.2 second evo8 and all he did was mess with the fuel and timing,i was still at stock boost. all that was wrong with the tune really was i was getting a small hesitation at about 2600-2800 rpms and at about 110mph it felt like the engine hit some kind of fuel or boost cut and then went ape **** again.

dunno if enginuity and ecuflash arent that accurate for our cars for tuning, but just would let us fix the problems. hopefully with the cobb stuff we can get her faster than the last tune.

Call me crazy but for the $750 I paid for this thing and all the rave about the car feeling like a totally different car I must say I am quite dissapointed. It really feels no different then stock other than that Megan exhaust being loud as ****. I hear the turbo more but I don't FEEL it more. Does it take a while for the car to recognize the tune or is it going to stay like this? If it does I think I might have to give my self a swift kick in the ass for not waiting for the 07 Ecutek.

On the other hand though, Velocity factor hooked everything up and was very helpful in this purchase. If Anyone in the South Florida area is ever in Boca check them out.

It's a DYNOmite dyno. I was worried that I didn't get much out of the protune but looking at other charts, tuned cars put down 270-285whp on that dyno. I guess my car took really well to the OTS map.

you gained a butt load of torque, but yeah your car might be a freak as far as the hp goes.

Finally went stage 2 today. COBB AP V2 OTS stage 2 map with 93 oct with Invidia V3 catless DP, HKS Hi-Power Catback, and K&N Typhoon.

Higher boost pressures for sure....saw close to 19 psi today. I didn't check for updates .... just loaded what was in the AP.... Seems to rev out a bit quicker perhaps and definitely higher boost pressure. Anyway, not a big jump in HP here....if it is 20HP over stock that may really not feel like that much on the butt dyno anyway....need to save up now for a tune.

So far I'm happy with the product although I guess I'd love to have "felt" a bigger difference over stock.

flashed my car!! stage 2 ftw, for now atleast. the ca feels more smoother through mid range and low end.

but i was wondering though, i was driving and thought i would take her up to red line to see if the rev limiter was cut off, but once i hit red line i bounced off and had to shift.
question is, i thought the AP would remover the stock rev limiter.
