Protune might save your cars life! The stock ECU might poop out on you with those mods, be carful!

can you elaborate a little more please? ive been stg 2 with a k&n panel filter for a few months. was putting off a protune until a fuel pump, injectors, and headers are installed.

what exactly can i expect to happen without a protune and how to avoid damage?

protune will make your car smoother and it will give you more power. The cobb maps wont cause any damage, theyre made to run rich but there safe. I'm pretty satisfied with how my car runs and the amount of power i have so the only reason id get a protune is if i got headers and ewg.

I disagree about the Cobb maps NOT causing any damage. I got my car tuned last week at P&L Motorsports by Jorge - awesome experience I must add. I was educated and given great feedback. P&L has a very professional staff who is obviously passionate about what they do. They will also answer any questions you have about future mods, such as alky/meth.

Before the tune, I had a Cobb-pure set-up, to include Cobb TBE with the lastest Cobb AP map for 93 octane fuel. The rest is pretty much stock. However, Jorge noticed on the base run that there were many small detonations during WOT. These small detonations most likely shortened the life of my motor in some way. No way to tell just how much damage was done, but I've been stage 2 for at least 4,000 miles. I should not have waited to get dyno-ed once going to Stage 2.

Do not wait to get your pro-tune if you are already Stage 2. One, you'll love the results. I went from 278 max hp to 293 hp and 299 ft-lb to 330 ft-lb of torque. At 4,300 rpm though, there was a 58 ft-lb increase in torque. Yes, it is night and day on the road. Two, you will prevent any damage to your car due to running a generic map. As great as Cobb is, no generic map will ever match a tuning session that is specific to your particular car.

FYI - You cannot really tune for the APS dual vent recirc valve since it is variable. If you want it, just install it. It will not improve your performance in any way. However, it will not hurt it either. It is purely for the sound. Yes, with a larger-than-stock turbo, the APS (or similar) may eventually be needed. I've asked both PDX Tuning and P&L Motorsports before installing mine. If you like the "pfffffft" sound, ricer like me, just install it. After your dyno-tune though, I wouldn't change the settings on the adjustable allen head bolt on top of the unit. I don't know if that will affect the A:F ratio or not, but it's just better not to mess with it. I set it to the sound level that I liked before the tuning... and I'll not mess with it again unless getting another tune.

Hope this is useful to someone out there.

Went stage 2 last week. Second-hand Cobb catted DP mated to stock exhaust, second-hand Cobb heatshield, second-hand v1 AP. (Call me the cheaper sleeper I guess.) I grin like a little kid every time the boost hits. Still mulling over the whole protune thing, might try my hand with self-tuning instead.

Well if you detonate. there are plenty of second-hand engine, ecu's and other parts

Went Stage2 last night. Next will be tint, gauges, some handling bits and a protune. I live in Southeast PA, so I'm guessing Agile motorsports is my best bet for a protune.
