Just got my AP, now should I wait to install it till I get an TBE and jump straight from stock to stage 2, or should I install stage 1 and wait the couple weeks for stage 2?

Stage 2 Club here I come!

It was pretty exciting for me considering my downpipe has been sitting in my room for the past couple weeks now picking up dust (mainly because it's been kinda sh!tty outside lately and because I work a lot). I finally got a day off and it wasn't too bad outside. It kinda sucked though because my good friend that was suppose to help me was feeling really sick from last night (went to a bar and had SOME drinks last night). Well I felt fine and I actually do most of the work anyways because I get really aggressive when it comes to installing parts on my car. Well enough about me lets get to the install.
I decided to go with the one and only Carbon Ti, Helix (catted) Downpipe and V1 AP (because I got an awesome deal online). As far as the uninstall goes the part that I thought was going to be the hardest (turbo to downpipe section) actually went very easily thanks to PB Blaster (highly recommended if you are going to do a downpipe install). The part that actually took a long time was trying to get the G.D. O2 Sensor out of the stock downpipe. I don't know if anyone has had this problem also but the G.D. thing just wouldn't come out. I double wrenched it, I used cheater bars, no luck.
I ended up going down to Murray's Auto and getting an O2 Sensor socket and that still didn't help. After almost breaking my arm and cussing like hell for about an hour I decided to go call Subaru and just get a freakin new one. After talking to someone on the phone that didn't know what he was talking about and arguing with him about which one was the A/F Sensor and which one was the O2 Sensor I finally got an answer that they did have one in stock and that he would put it aside for me. I asked for an O2 Sensor and I know which one is the G.D. O2 Sensor. He quoted me a $149 price which was a suprise because Murray's quoted me $170 to order it.
To make a long story short I ended up driving my friend's car to the dealership (because he was still feeling sick). When I went in and gave them my name I realized that I called the wrong dealership. This day seemed to be getting worse and worse. Luckily they did have one in stock. Then they told me it was going to cost $170. I was like WTF. Me and the parts guy figured out that who ever I talked to from the other dealership quoted me the price for the A/F Sensor and not the O2 Sensor. Luckily I didn't go there or they might have tried to sell me that one. The guy was cool though and only changed me $149, the price I was quoted before.
So I drove back home and put it in the new downpipe. Install was a little easier because of the fact that I didn't have to deal with a stuck O2 Sensor again. Another problem occurred though when I dropped one of the nuts that hook the downpipe to the turbo. Alfter more cussing and searching and lowering the car and raising it again to try to make it fall I almost gave up but from laying under the car and feeling on top of the suspension parts and stuff I finally found it.
Tighting wasn't a problem compared to everything else. After everything was extra tight I grabbed my accessport and hooked it up. Flash! 20 minutes later I was at stage 2. It's not a HUGE difference yet but I feel the power. I feel more low end torque and it pulls much harder and is much more responsive top end.
After getting excited and then getting discuraged and then getting pissed it all paid off. A job that could have only taken less than an hour took the whole day and costed me $149 extra. Like I said before though it was all worth it. Just an update from UgotSmoked.

Anyone correct me if i'm wrong but when I flashed to stage 2 I was also able to eliminated the O2 Sensor...So you might be able to just plug the O2 bung and get a refund on the Sensor!!!

worst advice evAr.

You NEED that rear 02 sensor, A.K.A catalyst monitor sensor.

Do not PLUG IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will change your A/F ratio....But, the AP does get rid of the p0420, which you would get with a catless downpipe. (sometimes)

After almost 3 years of being complacent I've finally joined the stage 2 club...well, almost (read on.)

I picked up a Crucial Racing DP and mated it to the OEM midpipe with plans to get a full 3" midpipe+catback in a few months. This is why I said "almost" stage 2; I'm probably down by 10whp or so without the proper 3" catback/midpipe. At first I was worried that I wouldn't make decent power and therefore not notice a difference over stage 1 but...wow was I wrong.

My car seems to take well to mods and stage 2 is a VERY noticeable change. The torque is probably the biggest change. With stage 1 I could feel myself getting a minor push when flooring it, but with stage 2 I'm pinned to the seat. I recently let a fellow STi owner drive my stage 1 setup and the difference from being a passenger instead of the driver was noticeable, so I can only imagine what stage 2 feels like being a passenger.

This is all old news for most of you guys but the biggest difference I notice is the spool/punch factor and the extra pull in the upper gears. Normally my car would feel noticeably slower from 140km/h and up but stage 2 really opens it up...especially 5th. Now I know what you guys mean about 5th feeling like 4th. I also noticed how easy it is to get a little squirrely in 1st/2nd now (still on winter tires). I concluded my little test drive with a soft launch and my god it gets up to 100 km/h very quickly now.

I tried shifting at 5000-5500 rpms like some have suggested but that is too early, in my opinion. I found that 6500-6700 in 2nd/3rd and 6000 in 4th seemed maximize acceleration. I'll confirm that later this year at the track.

Overall I saw a quick spike in 4th to 132kPa (19psi) but it very quickly fell to 119-125kPa (ECU is still learning as I reset it.) The divorced wastegate setup plus OEM cat is probably helping keep boost creep under control as I didn't notice any. After a few minutes of flogging the oil temps hovered around 97-98C, so everything seems good. After the run I was able to touch the side of my intercooler which I normally can't do after flogging it. The CR DP's thermal coating (inside & outside) must really be working.

Overall I'm very satisfied with stage 2. It is a HUGE difference over stage 1. I plan to hit up a local Protuner to verify that everything is running well. Once I get a full 3" setup, I'm sure I'll see even more power.

Went stage 2 this past weekend.

Invidia N1 Race Catback
Helix Catted Downpipe
Cobb AP V2 Stage 2 93 OTS Map

Install was a breeze. I had done this 3 days earlier with a V3 catless DP on my car, and it was WAY too loud. Sold the V3 and got a Helix catted DP, and put that on. Definitely quieter than straight through catless. Flashed to stage 2.

I notice that the power is much more linear, and is there all throughout the RPM's, compared to stock where u can feel the boost powerband, i have a much wider powerband now. The car pulls VERY hard. When in WOT, just look at the speedometer and it tells the story.

Default Stage 2 at Porsche of Princeton

Hello all, I have just joined the stage 2 club as well. I bought a turbo xs catted TBE with some heat wrap for the down pipe. And took my car over to the Porsche dealership where a friend of a friend works as a tech. Let me say that swapping a TBE (as well as swapping sways and end links) with a serious lift, professional air tools and enough spare bolts to fit in a Cayenne really makes for a much more enjoyable install session then lying on your back on the driveway.

We actually started this install last night but ran out of time in the narrow window they let the techs use the lifts for their own projects after work. Also it was kind of weird working on an STi with Princeton Porsche's Caymen race car on our right getting a datalogger installed and a 997 Turbo on the left getting a recharge. I felt kind of poor and out of place. But it helps that the techs there seemed to all like and own Subarus. One of them pointed out that modded STis and Caymens are in the same class in the race series he runs their Caymen in. That kept the owners of the place from making fun of us too much.

So we jacked the car up, and power tooled the crap out my car and dropped the exhaust and the sways bars in fairly short order. But it was getting the new bars in torqued to spec and lining up the exhaust so as not to leak that that took more time then we expected. It also would have helped if the guy doing the datalogger did not constantly need help running wires and such. Not like it wasn't cool to see the install, it just meant my STi had to hang out another night at the Porsche dealer. I am sure it didn't mind, but it sucks not having a car.

So when I got back to the dealer today the car was already in the bay with my buddy and the Porsche tech already having the exhaust hung. There was a brief flurry of activity as we could not find the last fricken gasket. We came this close to fabbing one out of a coke can before the gasket appeared. But with disaster narrowly averted we were able to hook up the whole exhaust and get the suspension bits all checked. With that done we flashed stage 2 and I was able to take a rip in a nearby parking lot.

Impressions: I can't stress how much better all aspects of the suspension have been improved by adding my whiteline sways and cartboy endlinks. The steering has better feel, the car does not roll over at all in turns and the understeer is gone. You can even throttle steer a little too (extra power helps here a great deal too). Also, the sound from my TXS conventionally muffled 3" catted TBE is perfect. It has a good menacing rumble without being intrusive at all. It sounds real quality despite not having a resonator. I am really pleased. And the power, oh god the power! How I missed having power! I used to have a highly modded Mustang with over 400 at the wheels, and finally the feeling from my STi is starting to feel like that car did (with out the headache of imminent end swapping or fish tailing). I think I will be satisfied for quite some time at this power level.

Lastly, thanks to Porsche of Princeton (not like any of them troll Subaru forums, but hey) for putting up with my lowly STi in such rarified company as legitimate race cars and 911 Turbos. Also thanks to my buds for helping do the install. With out all of you these parts would just be collecting dust in my room. I really appreciate it.

Next: RCE Springs and Performance alignment. God I am looking forward to it like a crack head for his next hit. Thanks all.

Went stage II tonight after having a turboback for a while. Did not load the hwg or the lwg but the reg? Was hitting target boost 18psi, but didnt feel that different........ also almost got a ticket... HAHA i guess i gotta wait for it to learn. question: do i have to "reset ecu" via AP in order to clear codes?
