humm...makes me wana get protuned now, but im holding off until i get my gt30r setup ...i think there should be a club for that too! (although i'd imagine that would b a somewhat smaller club).

Just a thought here but perhaps people feel different about stage 2 due to their driving style? It seems you get the most gains in the lower to mid range and if you are one of those people that likes your RPMs high than you won't feel as much difference at those ranges, while those that rarely take it past 5k and tend to stick more around 3-4k will think the difference is much more noticeable.

I wonder just how safe is it to run off-the-shelf map if you follow COBB's guidelines to the letter and get only their TBE on an otherwise completely stock car? Would protune really be necessary in such a setup? I can understand the need for protune for those that use different parts and whatnot but is it really necessary if you just have COBB TBE?

Also, anyone know if Subi dealer would install TBE for me?

Any good places to get protuned around Ventura/LA area in Cali?

Thanks.

Speaking as a Subaru Tech,It is illegal to do any removal of the cats.So going from 2 cats too 1 or none would be a very large fine.

Probably true for Cali...it all depends where you live.

In ontario, Canada, you are allowed to replace your cats, as long as they operate as intended.

Yes but the majority of these Downpipe's have no Cats in them. This is making the shop possibly having a large fine.I know at my dealership if there is a rattle at the cat from exhaust shields,we cannot even remove the shield.

Dammit I hate Cali! Well I would still want to have at least one cat so that perhaps I can at least pass the sniffer if I have to while maybe running an economy map. There is a chance that visual inspection will not pass if they throw the car on the lift, but the shop would have to first know what to look for and know how many cats STi comes stock with. I have been taking my previous car to some random gas stations for smog and they never bothered to look under the car or gave me any grief for having a CAI or loud exhaust on so I am hoping the same would hold for the STi. However, that means I wont be able to find a shop to do the install for me and I rent an appartment and dont really have all the tools or place to do this. I guess I could always go stage 1 first untill I figure how to get TBE installed.

Went stage 2 couple of weeks ago. Can't really say it was a huge gain, at least by the butt meter but I did get to 150 alot faster. Have an appointment with Agile next week for the protune.

Congrats to all of you going stage 2!

Can someone, please, tell me where the stock cats are located on an STi? Is it one on downpipe and one on midpipe or two on downpipe? Thanks!

Quick question: What are the 0-60 mph and quarter miles numbers with COBB Stage2?

Thanks.

My neighbor and I both have 05 STi's. He was stage 2 with an intake. I had just TBE. My car would run dead even. He was recently Protuned. Mildly faster in 1-2, starts to pull away in 3-4, walks away in 5-6. Tuner said the K&N was killing his tq when running OTS stg 2.

Default California sux!

I have been serioulsy thinking about going stage 2, but then I saw this and it made me think twice...now I'm just not sure...

California Crackdown on Modified Cars
$5 million in federal money will fund a Sacramento, California effort to stop drivers in modified cars.

Police in Sacramento, California announced Wednesday that they would use $5 million in federal money to begin cracking down on auto enthusiasts who modify their vehicles. The money will be used to form an undercover "Drag-Net" unit to stop motorists who appear to be driving modified cars.

The concept, which originated in San Diego in 2001, has been spreading throughout California generating significant revenue for the state and local departments. In Santa Fe Springs, for example, twelve officers on Drag-Net duty issued 300 citations and impounded 50 vehicles in just one weekend. Several cities have drag-racing ordinances that allow police to auction off seized cars and keep the profits.

Under Drag-Net, San Diego officers come to train other departments how to look out for what they believe to be tell-tale signs of illegal modification such as window tinting, large spoilers, extra gauges or racing stickers. Police say this gives them probable cause to stop and inspect a vehicle and its engine compartment.

In practice, "excessive exhaust noise" tickets are the most common violation. California law does not require police to measure sound levels objectively. Instead, according to the California Highway Patrol, the "citation is based on officer's judgment."

Drivers of stock vehicles that come from the factory with some of the characteristics of modified cars have experienced harassment under this provision. One such motorist complained on an enthusiast website that the California Highway Patrol was using these programs to make "driving while Asian" a crime, pointing out that the department's own website has several pages dedicated to Asian involvement in street racing and "vehicle modification."

Those receiving a vehicle modification "fix-it" ticket must visit a California Bureau of Automobile Repair office and pay a $35 fee to have their car inspected. If the car fails, a judge can impose another fine of up to $2000 for failing to meet California emissions requirements.
