Default Cobb stage I problem

Hey, I just recently installed stage I 93 octane in my 06 STI and I am now getting the check engine light and trouble codes on the O2 sensor and lean mixture. Is this normal and does anyone have some suggestions? I only use 93 octane in the car, do I need to add some more octane to it?

I am waiting for my down pipe from Cobb, 2-3 more weeks on back order, at that time I will install a fuel pump, injectors, and turbo inlet tube along with the TBE.

Any help or suggestions from you guys would be appreciated.

I take it you plan on getting a custom tune for those injectors? For that mod, it is required. The AccessPORT maps don't use aftermarket injectors on your car.

Maybe you should check through the map notes so you can identify what your running conditions should be. Thats one thing I always try to recommend.

Did your cel's show up when you were just cruisin around slowly? Have you done any work on your car recently on the intake system or exhaust? It's possible there are failures there. I think the lean code is probably just an intake leak, but it could be something else.

I installed an Injen CAI way before the stage I, and nothing else at the moment, everything else is sitting in the garage waiting on the down pipe. And the light comes on under normal driving conditions, one time without AC on, this last time with the AC on.

You better do some searching on this website! Everything needs a tune! Even a ram air intake! If I were you, I would call cobb to see what is wrong! Also to remember if you live in Cali you need to have a different map installed!

From what I have learned so far. U shouldn't have even put a CAI on until much later stages. The stock air box is a great piece of equipment for 350 plus HP.when u put your dp in and TBE you need cobb AP stage 2, with a pro tune.hope that helps.

You know, honestly, I never heard that the stock air box was good for modding. Before the AP the car was running fine with the CAI, and I checked the codes this morning and it was P0171 system too lean (bank 1). I have been e-mailing a guy at Cobb and I am waiting to hear from him. Car runs great. Before the CEL came on (2 days before) I raced an Evo VIII that had full exhaust and a short ram intake and beat him easily.

Really looking forward to stage II.

Regardless of whether or not the CAI is helping or hurting your performance, it IS what is causing the CEL's, period.

There's a thread where an AFR plot on a dyno chart showed someone's car running a full point leaner with a CAI on Cobb stg. 2.

That is a SCARY code. It means you're risking major engine damage from detonation and heat. This is most likely caused by the A/F ratio being thrown off because of the intake.

Put your stock intake back on until you get a protune. It is much cheaper than a new $3-6000 short or long block.

+1

for stage 1, keep the car stock. after you get all your parts in, set up an appoint to get protuned, add your parts, drive to your protune OUT OF BOOST (just to be safe), then get tuned.

Thanks for all of your imput, I am intouch with Cobb, who told me to check the mass air flow sensor and then if that fails to re-install the stock air box (which totally sucks a$$) nothing sexy about the ole stock air box. Who would have thought it would make such a difference, it is ok without stage I, stage I is ok with their intake. I guess I can survive a few more weeks with the stock box until the down pipe arrives, either that or change it back to stock programming.

You don't seem to be getting the point. You can not run the intake w/o getting protuned for it. Stage 2 ots maps will not support your intake. You will run lean and damage your motor. This has been proven time and time again.

Better to have a car that runs like a raped ape than to have a car with a blown engine sitting in your drive way. Who cares about how the intake looks, guys that drive that evo u raced, can only see your taillights anyways.
