Default tuning question

guys,

I don't know if this is the proper place to post this question, but is it possible to disable the "AIRBAG" light with tuning like disabling the CEL if I replace my steering wheel?

If I replace my sterring wheel and don't have airbag, will the other air bag in the car still work? Btw I have 07STi. thanks in advance guys

No you cant disable it by tuning but i think there are some wires you must splice and join to fool the system. I base this on absolutely anything

not 100% sure about scoobies, but most cars you can use a beefy 2 ohm resistor spliced in at the base of the steering column that goes to the airbag module. the air bag module thinks that the airbag is still there and all of your other airbags work. it is not recommended that you disable any safety features on your car as death or serious injury could result...good luck

i did it on my 05....2.2 ohm (i think) resistor installed in the connector for the airbag....all the rest of the system will work correct with no lights

just remember that it is in fact illegal and if the cop is an ass you could get in trouble...plus if you get in an accident you wont have the airbag (which is what i wanted but thats another story)

what wheel do you want to put in?

this is mine...i know the car was dirty as sh1t when i took the pic

just remember if you do any aftermarket wheel and want to keep your cruise you will need to relocate it...mine is right in front of the D/S seat attached to the center console

thanks for the reply guys

I'll try that resistor trick, I hope it works with my car

no airbag is not a problem here, and the 07STi here don't have a cruise control. only the 08 subarus have it here. I'm looking forward to put a nice steering wheel

imo wheel is incredibly retarded unless its you're racing it often. Airbag is totally safe and a wheel like will kill you if you manage to hit your head on it........thats one of the best parts of the subaru is its safety cause in reality it allows you to keep going by not getting injured. If you are wearing a helmet and are strapped in thats one thing, but why not just put that wheel on for track days? why on the street, whats the point unless you are just trying to make it look cool which is retarded. I say get your stock wheel sued'ed up by the guy on here and have it like a bmw squishy wheel. Its sweet.

we do "retarded" things here all the time. most subarus here use racing pads on streets. most use Endless CCX. I use Hawk DTC-70 on a stopteck bbk against the advises of brake pads vendors And my STi is not my DD. I use a 64hp Kia car for DD and it's sold here w/o airbag nor ABS. But hey I'm still alive Seriously it's the luck of the draw who gets huge accident and who doesn't. Of course driving skills are very important too.

And a good shaped steering wheel improves my driving because of the improved grip and size.

FWIW, I used to have an Evo 5, that's w/o airbag and I rarely wear my seatbelt on it. My friends tell me I'm crazy for not wearing it, but hey I didn't have any accident at all until that Evo got stolen.

If I remove my stock steering wheel and put a quick release and lock and aftermarket steering wheel, carnappers will have a harder time stealing my car.

That's what I was gonna say.

Except I wasn't going to be a dick about it. Just in case it's not the guy's daily driver, or if he's planning to keep the steering wheel out of the car most of the time, to deter theft, or something like that.

do me a favor and look up pictures and videos the DAMAGE airbags can do....in most accidents the speeds are fairly low (40 and under) people were more hurt or killed from the airbag in an otherwise very survivable crash.....if you wipe at 110 airbag or not your in serious trouble.....ill take my chances thank you

i have taken the drivers side airbag out of all of my cars...i leave the rest since i cant make the choice for my passangers and i always make sure the rewire the system so the others work.

you seem to strike me as one of those people that are all about the "o i have 10000 airbags in my car and super strength seatbelts i have nothing to worry about la dee da" when instead you should be improving your awareness and accident avoidance skills....everyone should do that

in fact i would put GOOD money on the fact if a HPDE was required to pass the driver licensing courses the accident rate would drop dramatically

*end rant sorry for the OT*
