Default UTEC vs. Vishnu

I was wondering which of these EM's is the better of the two? I have an 06 STi. Right now Im running the UTEC w/ tune. I picked up the Vishnu for cheep and wondering if it was any better (Easier to use, Better options)? Is there anyone with experience with the Vishnu or is it a POS? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks everyone!!! Dave

Vishnu is a reflashed ECU. UTEC is a user tunable piggy-back (much like a standalone though). First decide whether you want to tune yourself or if you want to load staged maps.

If you want multiple maps with some sort of ability to change them out I would get a cobb accessport. Topspeed in alpharetta can tune with that device.

utec or an accessport.

i personally like the AP, because of the ease of use and the gauges built in.

Unless you need to switch maps on the fly (without a laptop, and some time) I would just go with opensource, ie Romraider... You can spend $700 for a $25 piece of plastic, ****ty LCD screen, flash memory, and a mediocre at best OTS tune; or you can spend <$500 on a tune for your specific car, which will make it run smother, healthier, and probably make more power.

Im running the UTEC off a protune right now... The vishnu xede from what it looks like is a piggy-back also. If I found a AP for 50 bucks I'd use that.... I thought I read some where that people with the UTEC also do a Re-flash as well? Im in Afghanistan so it will be a while before putting all this together. Im planning on possibly running a FP Green in the future.

I'd go with the AP, you don't need the UTEC, plus the price on it is really steep and TXS is kind of hard to deal with, did I mention that the price of these systems depreciate faster then anything I've ever seen.

I would not expect you'd gain anything from switching to another form of engine management besides drivability improvements.

I'm one of the few on this board that loves the UTEC. The simplicity of it also makes it very powerful and there are some things you can do with it that just aren't possible on the stock ECU. Keep the UTEC if you want Speed Density, adjustable knock sensitivity, and real working launch control without all the problems that LC on the stock ECU causes.

If you are willing to stay with the Utec then Opensoruce+utec is a good combo for you. You can tune out the transition point that makes the car bug out and have the plus of having the utec etc.

The transition point is the only thing that bothers me about the UTEC... IDK jack about open source though. Thats basically a reflash, right? Im going to look into the ROM Raider. Is there additional tuning involed with opensource? Thanks for all the info everyone!
