Default Looking to get a protune, Do I need to __

Alright I want to set up a protune but I have a few questions.

I emailed PandL and got a crap response saying "We cannot tell you what you need to do, what you want to do it up to you because we have no idea what you want to do with your car..."

What I wanted to know is if I needed anything besides my TBE. I was considering getting a GM Boost Solenoid.

My other question is this. Everywhere I read says don't install this with out a tune. It looks like a simple install so I feel like I could do it. But, Would it be safe to drive 30 miles with it installed to PandL to get a tune?

Also what about a Walbro?

I also CC'd jorge@PandLMortorsports hoping he would comment back but got nothing.

I'm just nervous and they weren't very helpful...

Only thing you have to remember is that once tuned, you can't just throw on misc. parts. Just make sure you will be happy with the power a tbe only will make. If you're cool with that, than go for it. Many guys here have driven with a boost solenoid untuned to the tuner. Your car will run like crap if you get into boost. Possibly damaging it. You can pick up a prodrive ebcs for $95 shipped and have them plug it in for like $30 too if you wanna make life easier. Do what you want parts wise, it's your car.
You don't need a fuel pump unless changing injectors.

Alright for the EBCS, that wont really increase power much but it will make it hold boost longer right? I'm pretty sure after I get this last power mod (ebcs/protune), I"m gonna move into suspension upgrades.

I figured the EBCS would be alright as long as I stayed out of boost but I wanted to make sure.

What P&L told you is not a crap response. They cant tell you and we cant tell you what you need for your tune. You can tune the car with just the TBE. Hell you dont even need an exhaust to get a tune.

YOU decide what you want to put on your car and then they tune it.

I also think it is pretty safe to say that getting an EBCS isnt going to do anything for you as far as power. My tuner told me that a BC will allow the turbo to spool approx 200-300 rpm faster, but that is it. Your stock turbo is really the factor here as it runs out of breath in the higher rpms. FWIW I did not go with a BC or a Boost Solenoid and I am very happy with my tune.

If you want ideas of what others have done, check out the power bragging forum or the members journals.

most people are getting a fuel pump with the tbe and tune due to our stockers being borderline inadequate. other things to consider are getting at least a boost gauge if you don't have one, and some form of datalogging to keep tabs on your engine. you can get a tactrix cable for pretty cheap and free software like ecuexplorer will let you log your ecu.

a cold air intake isn't a bad idea either for an extra 10-15 extra hp, just don't put it on until they're tuning it.

good luck

I decided I needed a TBE, CAI, 1 step colder plugs, Walbro FP and a MBC to get the most out of my stage 2+ tune. I deemed this the minimum to get tuned because all the parts I wish to move onto were out of my budget at the time.

It's really your call, P&L can't make those decisions for you.
