Default Is my Boost Gauge Reading correctly?

I just install Prosport Electrical Gauges and was wondering is the reading is right. I have 07 WRX, the picture below is when the car in idle. Isn't suppose stay in zero instead of -20? I believe all the wiring I install is correct. Anything wrong on using the supplied T?

When the car is on boost at about 4000 rpm in 3rd gear. It's only goes up to 5-7psi. I don't that is correct. What is wrong with my set up? Thank you!

You said at only 4000 rpm. It would AT LEAST need to be 5 1/2 to 7k to reach peak boost. Which most likely can not even be achived in 3rd gear. 4th gear and up is usually where peak boost is seen.

So, the reading is correct at idle is -20 psi not zero? And why 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear won't be able to get as much boost?

Is not -20 PSI. It's 20 Inches of Mercury vacuum (in Hg vac). 20 in Hg vac is roughly -10 PSI.

PS: Is that a teddy bear next to the boost gauge?? LOL

Yeah actually READ your gauge. Under zero, in vacuum, it is measured in Hf vac as stated by gr00vy07 above.

It's only when you enter boost when the gauge is reading PSI.

It's not a Teddy Bear. It's a Subie Pig, a gift from World Vision on sponsoring a child

Question #2: At what rpm and gear in order for me to read somewhere between 5-12 psi. The is important to my origin question if my gauges reading correctly. Cause I do suspect that the supplied T operate incorrectly. Since the PVC hose that goes to the supplied Air Filter is thinner then the one go to Pressure Regulator and Serge Tank.

I see full boost in 3rd gear usually and with a WRX 5 speed I'd expect to see it in 3rd also, I could be wrong.

I know in my logs I hit full boost in 3rd though.

1st and 2nd no way, they're way too short.

Wlit,
I am not sure if your gauge is electrical or mechanical, but I believe I spot an Electrical sensor at the very right edge of your engine bay shot. If so, then your boost gauge should read 0 psi when you turn the ignition On without actually starting up the engine (this is the way to tell if your gauge is calibrated correctly). Also, if I am correct and your gauge is electrical, it looks like your sensor is mounted Horizontally instead of Vertically, which is also incorrect (the nipple that the vaccuum hose connects to should be facing downward, according to the instructions). Finally, I have heard that the air filters supplied for the Electric boost gauges (the white sponge in the clear plastic cover that you have connected between the "T" and the Electric boost sensor) are not needed on the STI and can sometimes be too restrictive and cause low readings, so you may want to try running without it. Finally, the easiest way to hit Peak boost in your car would be to floor the Gas pedal in fourth gear while going at a low speed, this will cause the Turbo to have to spool up at full load. Try holding it until at least 5k rpms if you can unless you hit peak boost before then (I am honestly not sure what a WRX's boost map looks like compared to an STI, but by 5k rpms you should definately have hit full boost). Hope this helps.

This is very helpful. Thank you. The gauge is electrical and it read at 0 psi when you turn the ignition with engine off. "sensor is mounted Horizontally instead of Vertically, which is also incorrect (the nipple that the vacuum hose connects to should be facing downward, according to the instructions)." Does it make a different? I am not sure. I personally don't like the air filter either. I will take it off next time and see how thing work out. The supply T also have restrictive access to the Boost Sensor it is much thiner to the connect to Serge Tank and Pressure Regular. Wondering if I should have that replace also.

Thanks again for all the info. Hope this will be something useful for other people who is also installing boost gauge.
