IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | hey doc, yes that is one thing you should avoid. I have never boosted uphill. that is a no no. way too much load. before you go, you might want to get a larger boost pill. it will help boost spike and may make tuning easier. check out the cobb pdf on the issue. it has part #'s. edit: yeah, what fungsol said. Still, is this really a reasonable rule even with a proper tune? The load at 8% grade in 3rd is less than in 4th on flat terrain. Is there some reason we shouldn't expect our cars to be capable of pulling hard in all the gears? Mike at GST is tops by all accounts. I'm sure he can drill out the pill if he doesn't have a full selection at his disposal, as I expect he does. I will, however, discuss this with him and make sure it gets some attention when he does my Stage 2 tune.

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | So nothing new to update? Sold my STi a few years back and now wanting to get an 08 STi, Accessport, and cobb TBE (whenever it comes out) kinda like I had on my 05. I hope they resolve this problem because I loved my AP and COBB and a Pro Tune is probably a good 6 hour drive one way for me. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2008 Trader Rating: (3) | Wouldn't it be about 5.5 hours back? ![]() Seriously though, since I flashed with Cobb's v1.01 Stage 2 Cali map, I haven't had any issues and before the map, I was doing an uphill pull. No issues before the single CEL and no issues since. You'll be safe. |

I definitely feel much safer afterwards, not to mention that Mike at GST made the car drive about 100 times better than on the Cobb maps. I didn't realize how non-linear the fly-by-wire throttle response was until after the tune: I just assumed the weirdness was a feature of driving a turbocharged car. Mike's map got rid of all kinds of strange abruptness in the stock and Cobb OTS maps.

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2008 Trader Rating: (3) | True. I was just trying to let vermilion know that the OTS maps are 99% safe and that it's easy to get spooked with all the posts regarding engines blowing up. I wasn't trying to say that a Pro-tune will not help. Apropos to what the good Dr. said above, I also want to reiterate that I was told that my car was an anomaly (like its owner!) and that they (Harman Motive) had never seen an OTS map perform so well, power and safety wise. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | Actually I just found out that Static X Motorsports is about a 3 hour drive one way for me which is great. I know they have an AWD dyno and they sell Cobb's AP so I figure they could do a protune. I'll have to email to be sure though. |

IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2003 Trader Rating: (2) | Another user with overboost on the 1.01 Stage 1 map. Mine occured at ~5000 rpm in 4th gear at a track day event. Happened three times before I gave up and switched to "S" mode to be safe the rest of the day. I have a bone stock powertrain, it was 50 degrees and rainy out, and at 5300 feet elevation. The fuel cut scared the **** out of me the first time it happened... |

| Junior STI Driver | Me too.Same code, runing Cobb Stage1 with Magnadflow CBE.No other mods Yesterday doing about 80 MPH.Shifting from 5th to 6th.Light came on,and the whole dashboard looked like x mas tree. Almost crapped in my pants! Cleared the CEL and Reflashed back to stock. Will let the Tuner take care of the rest. Now riding in Stock mode, hell this thing is slow, till I get it pro tuned. No oil consumption. The car runs good.No damage! Thank GOD!! |
