Default Can the dealer detect accessport maps?

I searched around and found some comments saying that the dealer can not detect if your car used to have an accessport map, but was returned to stock.

Anyone know if the dealer can see the history of flashing going to the ecu?

I'm wondering how the AP puts the stock exact map which was loaded into the car originally back into the car. Dosn't a new AP base map completely overwrite the stock one, so the stock one should be cleared from memory? How does the AP put the exact map back into the car after it was already erased during the first AP flash?

yes they can. no they probably won't unless they look.

i don't know the specifics but when you install the ap it copies the stock parameters image and saves then in it's own memory. when you divorce it, it returns everything as it found it.

some people say the dealer can tell how many times the ecu has been reflashed. However it is impossible for them to know what was there before.

technically speaking, the dealer cannot just say that you flashed the ecu just because they see it has been flashed a few times. they'll probably look at your car for signs of physical abuse rather than looking at the electronics for tampering.

Thanks for the input...

Do you think they can tell the car was reflashed 4 hours before it was returned to the dealer for servicing? ...or just count the number of total flashes in ecu history...?

Good question. I'd also like to know the answer to this question. I have a warranty that lasts till Nov 2009 and the only reason I haven't done the AP + protune is for fear of losing the warranty.

If you revert back to stock, the only thing the dealer can tell is how many times your ecu has been flashed; that being the only trace the accessport leaves behind, but for all they know, you've gotten a reflash from another dealer somewhere in the past. Unless you're like me, whose got well over 50 reflashes on my ecu

as far as I've read, there is no time-stamp on the reflash. but again, don't sweat it. dealers nomally will look at your transmission and physical components to determine abuse. they need to show something you did broke it or that you abused it. a counter in some rom is probably the last argument they need to use. they can just make up whatever other excuse.

I was at the dealership getting an oil change the other day and i heard one of the mechanics ask the other mechanic " has this car been flashed or signs of ecu changes?". The other guy replied no.

To me its pretty clear they check for ecu changes. Do not think they can not tell.

^^ then again say they find the ecu has been flashed a few times. it proves nothing. unless it is like 35 times.

i doubt many dealers will even bother to look into it unless you're asking for some major warranty work

AFAIK, THE AP downloads your current flash count with the stock map.

I'm not %100 sure but I have heard that.

I dont know how, but I have head that they can tell, but I had a tone of tuning on one of my ecu's before it burned out and they still replaced it. My dealer is mod friendly and has taken care of me even with TBE, CAI and many suspension mods.

for every measure there is always a counter measure. get a spare ecu that's been only flashed by the factory.

Yea but doesn't the ecu keep track of the mileage on your car? So then the mileage will not add up?

The ECU does not calculate mileage. The Gauge cluster does (more or less).
