now this is just starting get funny i keep seeing members with 07's who are running intakes and their like "its running fine" LOL... imo an intake is a waste in terms of power gains especially when their 07's. 07's already have tuning issues from the factory and running an intake ONLY makes things worse.. please just keep running your intakes without a tune and we shall.......

Isn't it supposed to run near stoich when out of boost? I personally see no problem with the AFR curve, but if chris said so....

"See the pic below, the lower line is obviously the AFR. I was basically running 13:1 at one point. That was Cobb stage 2 V1.04. WAYYYYY too lean. You have been warned!"

Cobb specifically tuned their stg 2 map to run on a "completely stock intake system" with a catted turboback.. this should be no surprise to anyone as to why it was running so lean..

Here lies the inherent problem with OTS maps, which cause threads like this to exist. Just because it worked OK on one guy's car doesn't mean it will work on yours.

This wasn't designed to be a short ram bashing post guys, everyone can have their own reasons for everything. All I was trying to do was share the tests I've conducted and the hard data from a professional. When Chris was going over the chart with me he basically said look what your cold air intake did to the AFR, you were running 13:1 at one point.

** Here's the actual images of my dyno chart. Critique it a bit, let me know what you guys think. Cobb Catted tbe, APS 65mm and walbro

+1 Nice post. I think a lot of the 07s are failing due to owners and tuners modding them without fully understanding what they are doing. The problem is the 07 is very different from the older STIs, but people don't treat them that way. Don't mess with it unless you understand what you are doing. If you overlook some of the changes made to the 07 you end up running a very dangerous set up and then blaming it on the 07 tune or pistons. I'm not saying it's never the stock tune's fault, but I'd be willing to bet A LOT of these cases are due to people making unsafe mods.

Clairification: What is the difference between the thick and the thin lines? Thin = COBB OTS and thick = protune? If that is the case, then I fully understand what you are saying. This is part of the reason why I got a protune as soon as possible after putting my TBE on flashing to COBB stage 2 OTS map. You just don't know how your vehicle is going to perform.

I had the SPT intake with cobb AP 1.04 stage one. It would run great then some times when I would get on it. The car would have a fuel cut!!! Stopped at 5k. So I took the SPT intake out!!!

^^^. I agree. I keep seeing people complain about how their 07 broke and how subaru sucks, but they never tell you the whole story. they don't tell you how they drove it like ****, or b*tch slapped it with a crap load of parts. However, I do agree though on the 07 stock tune not being the best. Cobb's website does say to use stock intake or their intake, reason being that your aps intake has a lot of turbulence ripping by you MAF sensor causing incorrect readings, i'm sure this didn't help either.

When I had an AEM intake on my 2005 (it was installed when I bought it), there was a CEL for running lean. The fuel trims weren't far off at idle, but since the MAF was after a bend in the piping, the fuel trims would fluctuate. The problem isn't specific to AEM- this will happen in ANY CAI since they ALL put the MAF after the bend, thus none of them are safe to run without calibration. Even with calibration, your a/f ratio is going to fluctuate due to the varying turbulence of the intake air around the MAF sensor, so one should add a little bit more safety in the tune (tune a little richer than normal).

The power boost could be felt since the car was untuned and thus would have otherwise been running too rich, but I removed it prior to flashing to Stage 2 for safety.
